For this week’s K-Pop 10 Things, we list out 10 of the most famous K-Pop idol friendships. They say that best friends are just one soul in two bodies. That’s exactly what these K-Pop idols are! Whether they met before or after debut, they share the same single goal and passion in life: K-Pop. Through that small link, these souls join together in a beautiful friendship, where they make music together and get in trouble together.
Check out the 10 famous K-Pop idol best friends that make us envious of all the love!
1. EXO’s Kai x SHINee’s TaeMin
The main male SM Friendship pairing is EXO’s Kai and SHINee’s TaeMin. The two had grown tremendously close during their trainee days under SM. After TaeMin debuted first as SHINee, Kai continually cheered for him as TaeMin did the same when Kai debuted as EXO. Now that they’re both K-Pop stars, the strength between the two boys continues to grow stronger.
2. SNSD’s TaeYeon x SNSD’s Tiffany
If Kai and TaeMin are the male SM BFFs, Tiffany and TaeYeon has got to be the girl part. The two who met as they trained to debut under the same group developed a deep friendship that balanced each other perfectly. Tiffany, who is a bubbly, happy-go-lucky girl, and TaeYeon, who is more reserved and introverted, bring out the best sides of each other to form TaeNy.
3. INFINITE’s DongWoo x EXO’s Xiumin
This unlikely pair’s friendship started not so long ago, but their history runs a lot deeper. Although DongWoo and Xiumin met after their debut, the pair had gone to the same high school. After finding out that they were alumni, the two quickly hit it off and were seen hanging out together on various occasions.
this is the moment
4. INFINITE’s WooHyun x SHINee’s Key
Another Woollim x SM BFF couple is WooHyun and Key. The two began hanging out under the 91-line friends group, but found that they meshed along quite well. Since their meeting the two have grown closer, sharing each others struggles and joy throughout each promotion.
5. TWICE’s ChaeYoung x I.O.I’s SoMi
A legendary BFF couple born out of JYP, ChaeYoung and SoMi are famous for being inseparable way before their debut. The two grew close as they relied on each other during their trainee days (even getting randomly interviewed on the streets while they were on the way to practice!). Although they’re 2 years apart, SoMi’s energetic personality and ChaeYoung’s low-key style meshed perfectly. Even as ChaeYoung debuted as TWICE and SoMi was eliminated from SIXTEEN, the two have continued to cheer each other on. Now that SoMi has debuted as I.O.I, the two were able to reunite and hang out even more!
6. BIG BANG’s SeungRi x HaRa
This unlikely pair started since before the two’s trainee days. SeungRi and Hara had first met at a dance academy in GwangJu with the same dream of becoming a K-Pop star. The two had gone their separate ways for a while as SeungRi was accepted into YG and Hara into JYP/DSP. However, after the debut of BIG BANG and KARA, the two were able to reunite and share even more experiences as artists.
7. SNSD’s Tiffany x SISTAR’s BoRa
Tiffany’s best friend in SNSD may be TaeYeon, but Tiffany’s got another soul mate in the industry. BoRa and Tiffany are well known to have become close when their promotional periods overlapped. As they shared waiting rooms and met along the halls, the two became instantly close with their bubbly charms and energetic personalities.
8. JYJ’s XIA x Super Junior’s EunHyuk
One of K-Pop’s oldest best friendships belong to none other than JYJ’s XIA Junsu and Super Junior’s EunHyuk. The two have known each other since they were in elementary school, sharing the dream of becoming an idol. The two had promised each other to never smoke and never drink, so that they can become admirable artists. To this day, the pair keep their oaths together. Even when XIA had left SM Entertainment, EunHyuk never let it dwindle their friendship as he continues to go support XIA’s concerts and musicals whenever he can.
9. UP10TION’s Xiao x SEVENTEEN’s SeungKwan
Another blossoming friendship between our favorite idols are Xiao and SeungKwan. The two had met while promoting at overlapping periods, and quickly grew to a loving friendship. Xiao’s playfully adorable side matched well with SeungKwan’s dorky humor, garnering much love and attention from boths HONEY10s and CARATs.
10. BTS’s V x Park BoGum
I guess good looking people hang out with other good looking people, but this is just cuteness overload! V and Park BoGum met while Park BoGum was the MC for a music show program. V’s 4D personality and Park BoGum’s playfully dandy qualities combine to create one of the best looking K-Pop friendships around! Fans have constantly seen the two joking around together behind the stage, as well as continually supporting each others’ works through SNS.
We love to see our favorite K-Pop idols perform on stage, but sometimes our idols face danger while up on stage under unreasonable conditions. Whether it be for the weather conditions, the stage technicalities, health issues or more, our idols face the burden of having to stand up on stage with a smile on their faces even while the safety of the performance is not guaranteed. We give mad props for them putting on their professional faces no matter the situation, but we would still rather see our idols in their best conditions.
Check out this week’s 10 Things, covering the K-Pop idol girls who faced some dangerous stage incidents!
1. Baby VOX
We start with the 1st generation K-Pop idols. Baby VOX’s dangerous stage incident is legendary. The girls were posed on a turning floor, but the floor had turned much too quickly than planned. The girls all collapsed on the floor as they lost their balance, and the epic entrance scene turned out to be an epic blooper scene.
2. SISTAR’s BoRa
SISTAR’s BoRa made the headlines during their debut promotions for “Push Push”. During one of their performances, she had slipped, while wearing high heels and landed on her mic. She tried to bravely get up and continue, but the pain was too much. The performance was stopped to make sure that BoRa was ok.
3. SISTAR’s SoYou
Although there weren’t any injuries, SISTAR made headlines again years later for their performance of “Shake It”. The girls were performing their hit song, but the stage was way too slippery to not be a safety hazard. SoYou almost slipped and fell, but thanks to her toned training, she kept on her feet. The slippery state of the stage was even more apparent while they were walking off the stage!
4. Red Velvet’s Joy
Red Velvet’s Joy had fainted during a performance for their song, “Happiness”. The poor girl was probably under-nourished and tired out of her mind. When the smokes blew, she grabbed her head and collapsed mid-performance. But as the professional that she is, she got straight back up. It took her a few moments to regain her consciousness, but she insisted the performance continue… We would rather you take care of yourself, Joy!
5. Stellar’s JeonYul
Talk about risque! We know Stellar is known for their overly sexy appeals, but this accident was no publicity stunt. During their performance, JeonYul’s clear strap came off from her shirt. Though it didn’t cause immediate danger, with such risky dance moves, a wardrobe malfunction was inevitable if she wasn’t careful!
6. APink’s BoMi
APink’s BoMi was in a similar situation to JeonYul, where during her performance her ring got caught on her front ribbon. Unable to unhinge it, she had to continue on with her hand clutched to her chest. If she hadn’t noticed and waved her hand up and over her head, her shirt would have surely ripped!
7. SNSD’s TaeYeon
It may have been about a decade ago, but it’s an incident that we can’t forget about. During their debut promotions, SNSD had performed their song “Into the New World”. TaeYeon’s health was at a terribly low point. She struggled all throughout the performance and fans could even see her tears while she was singing.
8. Girl’s Day’s HyeRi
Girl’s Day’s HyeRi caused a great scare during their “Something” performance. The idol had pulled through to the end of the performance, but it was clear to the fans that HyeRi was definitely not feeling well. News reports sited that HyeRi had collapsed as soon as the stage was over. The members had rushed to her side, and their manager had to carry HyeRi off the stage on his back.
9. Rainbow’s HyunYoung
Another slippery slope incident. HyunYoung of Rainbow had tripped over her super high heels during their debut promotions for “Gossip Girl”. The idol had stumbled for a good 10 feet before gaining her balance again. Her part was coming up next, but HyunYoung grabbed the mic and kept on going as the pro that she is.
10. f(x)’s Krystal
One of the most legendary stage incidents of the current generation of idols, Krystal had fainted during mid-performance. The girls were performing in front of hundreds of fans at a Lotte event, when Krystal had a hard time looking straight and kept doubling over. Eventually, she lost consciousness and fainted right in the middle of the song. The performance was immediately stopped and the staff had aided her off the stage.
Before a K-Pop group can official debut and begin on their life long path of a K-Pop idol, extensive amount of careful planning goes into their preparation. And what is planning without some horrible, just simply atrocious, ideas. A lot of these ill-advised ideas happens when the company decides a group’s name. A name is a really big, big deal in Korea. It’s believed that a name controls what happens in your destiny!
These 10 male K-Pop groups had to undergo a series of what we imagine to be stressful times. Their names were almost so weird that we wonder if they even would have made it to where they are now had they continued on with their pre-debut potential names!

The K-Pop idols that we love and admire wouldn’t have been where they are today if it weren’t for the 1st generations of K-Pop idols. Back in the 1990’s, K-Pop was just emerging with boy bands and girl groups popping up through a newly found pop culture. Back when ridiculously heavy stage outfits of all different colors and lip syncing was acceptable, the current idols of today were just being born (some not even!). But as our current idols always say, they had been able to grow their dreams of becoming an artist thanks to the influence of the 1st generation idols. And they say, imitation is the best form of flattery, and that’s exactly what they did.
We take a look at the 10 idols of today covering the tracks of the 1st generation K-Pop idols!
1. Wonder Girls – “Now” by Fin.K.L (2000)
Fin.K.L had originally released their song “Now” in 2000. The dark, sexy vibe of the song was a game changer for the group’s image, as the song emphasized the members’ physical maturity. Wonder Girls then took the “Now” baton almost a decade later and released a remake of the exact music video for promotional purposes. Unfortunately, the Wonder Girls didn’t actively promote the cover song. 🙁
2. EXO – “Candy” by H.O.T (1996)
Anyone who is even remotely familiar with the 90’s K-Pop knows this signature song by H.O.T. As one of the hottest K-Pop groups back then, H.O.T set a new trend for the industry with this fun, upbeat song called “Candy”. The song is covered repeatedly over and over again by the current idols, but we think EXO did a terrific job saluting their SM seniors through their cover performance!
3. APRIL – “Everlasting Love” by Fin.K.L (1999)
Another signature song from the 90’s, Fin.K.L’s “Everlasting/Forever Love” was released in 1999, when the groups was still promoting their innocent and lovely image. The song is iconic for it’s main hook with the verse, “promise me”. This song is also repeatedly covered by current girl groups, but Fin.K.L’s DSP juniors, APRIL did an incredible job covering the song to fit their same innocent and girly image!
4. ASTRO – “Couple” by Sechs Kies (1998)
Even K-Pop fans who have no idea of the 1st generation should have heard this song! The Sechs Kies members regrouped together thanks to the help of “Infinity Challenge” to re-promote the song, “Couple”. It features a sweet melody and lyric that had all the Sechs Kies fans dying at their feet back in the good days. ASTRO nailed the song with their fresh, boyish images, while adding in their clean, cut dance skills.
5. SNSD – “Dreams Come True” by S.E.S (1998)
The fairies of the 1st generation idols, S.E.S had released “Dreams Come True” as an inspirational song for their fans. Their high, girly voices were perfectly matched by their SM juniors, SNSD over a decade later. We can’t tell which version we like better!
6. SHINee – “We Are the Future” by H.O.T (1997)
H.O.T’s “We Are the Future” was famous back in the 90’s for its eccentric dance opening. Who else than SM’s KalGunMu SHINee boys to cover their song? SM must be doing something right, because both H.O.T and SHINee are sick dancers!
7. GFriend – “To My Boyfriend” by Fin.K.L (1998)
Fin.K.L’s arguable 2nd most popular song, “To My Boyfriend” stole the hearts of all K-Pop male fans back in the day for its upbeat and adorable music style. We’ve honestly never seen Lee HyoRiso cute! So, who better than the latest nation’s girlfriends of K-Pop, GFriend to cover the song! UmJi and YeRin’s adorable voices were basically made for this song.
8. SR16G – “I’m Your Girl” by S.E.S (1997)
Probably the most iconic girl group song to be released by the 1st generation idols, “I’m Your Girl” took the industry by storm with its release. S.E.S’s debut song can easily be heard while walking the streets in Seoul today. Most notably, SR16G (SM Rookies Girl Group) had covered the song on the Mickey Mouse Club. As the juniors of the 1st generation queens, we think the rookie girls did them proud!
9. GaIn of Brown Eyed Girls – “10 Minutes” by Lee HyoRi (2003)
After the disbandment of Fin.K.L, Lee HyoRi set out on her own with a whole new style and groove. She traded in her frilly skirts for sexy crop tops and tight jeans, and took the title of sexy queen as her own. Her debut solo single, “10 Minutes” became the iconic song for both HyoRi and the start of a sexy generation of K-Pop. Who better to take on HyoRi’s reign than Brown Eyed Girls’ very own sexy diva GaIn?
10. BIG BANG – “I Love You” by S.E.S (1998)
Another unforgettable song by S.E.S, “I Love You” is the iconic song of a shy, innocent girl professing her love to her significant other. None other than BIG BANG’s G-Dragon, T.O.P and TaeYang took on the song and seriously killed it. We’ve never seen more beautiful and innocent girls than the three BIG BANG hyungs!
