Source Music just announced today, “GFriend will be returning on March 6th with a new mini-album. The girls challenged on a new image that’s different from their standard concepts. Please look forward to it.”
The new mini-album marks the girls’ return 8 months after their 1st full album, “LOL”, back in July 2016. During those 8 months, GFriend killed the music charts for an impressive amount of time with their title track, ‘NAVILLERA’. The girls have seen successful results ever since their debut, leaving behind a trail of hit tracks ever since their debut with ‘Glassbeads’. After the success of ‘Me Gustas Tu’, ‘Rough’ and ‘NAVILLERA’, GFriend seeks to add their 5th consecutive hit with their new album.
GFriend will begin dropping teasers for their new mini-album that’s set to release on March 6th.
Kpopmap was invited to K-Pop’s signature little girlfriends, GFriend’s showcase for their first full length album, “L.O.L”. Their album title stands for both the meaning of “Laugh Out Loud” as well as “Lots of Love”, and that’s exactly what we felt during the whole showcase! The girls had held their showcase at the Yes24 Live Hall in Seoul on July 11, 2016. We wanted to share the whole experience with the international Buddys, so we bring you the short and sweet review of GFriend’s whole showcase in just 15 short points!
As expected of the latest stardom hit girl group, the turn out for the showcase was amazing. Reporters and photographers all crowded into the hall for a glimpse of the beautiful ladies. The girls performed 4 songs, held a photo time to showcase each individual members’ appeals, and got deep and honest for their interview session.
In order to bring you guys one step closer to the GFriend girls, Kpopmap presents the 15 things you can only find at a GFriend showcase!
GFriend’s “L.O.L” Showcase
Brought to you by your friends at Kpopmap
1. LOTS OF CLASSIC
The girls had performed “Rough” from their previous mini album. Although idols usually only perform their new tracks, the crowd welcomed the song for its classic GFriend taste. “Rough” can be categorized as the latest track from their classic 3 – “Glass bead”, “Me Gustas Tu” and “Rough”. It was good to see a live performance of one of their classics with that GFriend classic stunning performance!
2. LOTS OF YUJU
As the girls came on stage to perform, we couldn’t help but be particularly focused on one member. YuJu, as the main vocalist of the group, had always been a fantastic vocalist. We didn’t know how her voice could even improve farther, but she stole the stage with her perfect vocals. We would have mistook her performance as pre-recorded if her labored breathing wasn’t heard through her mic!
3. LOTS OF CONTRASTING CHARM
It was time for the photo session as each individual girls came up to center stage to show off their different charms through their individual poses. All of the girls posed with the most adorable poses, with an exceptionally eye catching series of aegyo poses! The girls spiced up the photo session with endearing contrasting charms, where they would walk up to the stage in such a shy manner with their heads down, but when they hit that center mark each girl turned 180 degrees to show off their lovely poses!
4. LOTS OF GFRIEND-NESS
GFriend is well known for their youthful and feminine image – they’re the “Nation’s Girlfriend”! We thought it was just a concept, but it appears the girls are just naturally so. All throughout the showcase, the girls were the epitome of the ideal girlfriend as they were shyly giggling and responding to questions in soft, feminine voices. The girls would have bursts of energetic youthfulness where they would pose cheerful gestures out of the blue to raise others’ spirits! Leader SoWon mentioned that she hopes that their signature GFriend image will be able to continue for a long time.
5. LOTS OF DANCING
If we think GFriend, we can’t forget to mention their dancing! The girls brought their A game for their latest choreography as well. UmJi mentioned that with the pressure to have the perfect choreographs, the girls had practiced night and day for their new tracks. Choreography is such a critical part of the group as SoWon revealed how the choreography for their title track had even changed after filming the MV. With such a large change with so little time, the girls had a brief mental breakdown after the news!
6. LOTS OF PREPARATION
Along with the pressure to dance well, the girls had pressure to be fully prepared for their comeback. Their new album consists of 10 new songs, but the girls had to learn, prepare and execute the songs to the T. With only having been 6 months since their previous comeback, UmJi expressed how it was difficult to master the emotions for each of the new songs. But they’re GFriend. They pulled through with much time and preparation for their first ever full album!
7. LOTS OF LOL
YuJu explained how their album’s title had two different meanings: “Lots of Love” and “Laughing Out Loud”. The two meanings coincide to represent a new start for the girls for their 1st full album. EunHa farther explained how the album was a fresh take for the group as the album consists of multiple songs of very different styles. From Reggae to R&B, the girls wished to share lots of laughs and love through their variety songs.
8. LOTS OF STRONG SUBS
As mentioned, the album contains lots of songs from different styles. Not only are they different, they’re strong. The girls mentioned just how strongly supported their title track was by its subs. GFriend particularly wished to promoted “Mermaid” and “Gone With the Wind”. “Mermaid” is a ballad track with beautiful lyrics that showcase the girls’ emotion-filled vocals. “Gone With the Wind” was a new take on dubstep with an innovative choreography prepared just for the song.
9. LOTS OF VIVACIOUS VOCALS
It’s hard to come by a group that consists of members that are all vocally talented, but GFriend definitely meets up to par. Not only are the main and lead vocalists, YuJu and EunHa, talented in vocal skills, but also the rest of the girls. When the girls had performed their ballad track, “Mermaid”, the girls’ clear cut vocals shined throughout the hall, and we were able to experience just what makes GFriend’s sound so pleasing to the mass public. Their hard work and diligence sure paid off!
10. LOTS OF LITTLE DETAILS
Along with their vocal talents, the girls showcased a performance that excelled down to the smallest detail. Their performance of their sub-track, “Gone With the Wind” was full of unique and innovative dance moves, such as this adorable choreograph where the girls pair off and perform hand clapping routines. With their choreography on point, the girls had nailed every detail down to their expressions. Even when they were not in the center, each of the girls had on such great expressions that you couldn’t help but applaud their mind control. Beautifully done, ladies!
11. LOTS OF NAVILLERA
All of the sub tracks are only to prepare you for the main event: “NAVILLERA” the title track. Their new song marked another successful hit for sure as the girls started the dance off with spectacular popping routines to finish off with an adorable butterfly pose. The girls wish to portray the beauty of a butterfly, and ask the fans to pay attention to their “I Count On You” point dance, where they pose their fingers in a V under their chin. The more you listen to the track and follow their choreography, we promise that you won’t be able to deny that GFriend has got another successful hit under their belt!
12. LOTS OF MEMBER LOVE
One thing that had the audience ‘aww-ing’ was when UmJi took the time to express her love for her leader, SoWon. UmJi took the mic to express just how thankful she was for her oldest unnie and leader, who had guided them since their trainee days. SoWon returned the love by expressing just how equally thankful she is to her members for following her without her even having to raise her voice.
SoWon expressed that teamwork was the one thing that she could confidently say that their team excels at. With so many common conflicts arising between average girls of their age, they take pride in how well they work together and understand each other. Even through conflicts the girls will hold on tight to each other and pull through. SoWon’s role model is the veteran group, ShinHwa, for their continual musical endeavors without the group ever breaking apart.
13. LOTS OF RINJI
The love between the girls were so transparent, but the duo pairing that caught our eyes were the give and take between YeRin and UmJi. If one made a joke, the other would support it with a follow up or a cute gesture. UmJi once explained, “As you listen to our track “LOL”, you’ll start feeling happy.” YeRin followed up by jokingly saying, “I can tell all you reporters wanting to smile already, because of the song!” Laughing and joking with each other, we couldn’t help but fall in love with the RinJi pair!
14. LOTS OF LOVE FOR FANS
The love between the members are strong, but one could argue if it’s as strong as their love for their fans. YuJu had revealed that they had included a special thanks for their fans in form of a song. The new track, “My Diary/Sunshine” was created for the Buddys. The girls expressed that their fans will listen to the verse that says “You are my sunshine”, and know that they are the sunshine to GFriend.
15. LOTS OF GFRIEND TO COME
GFriend has always seen success since their debut with “Glass Beads”. When asked what their secret is, the girls remained humble and explained how their success wouldn’t have been possible without their staff and company members. Even while always placing at top tier on music charts, the girls remain grounded and grateful to those around them. With their new track an inevitable success, when asked for a 1st place promise, the girls have promised to arrive at music show recordings dressed as a butterfly in roller skates! Congrats, girls! We don’t doubt that we’ll see your 1st place promise soon!
That concludes the GFriend showcase review that was prepared just for you!

What do you think of the Yu-D couple? Ship or no?
What other fantasy couple do you think look so good together?
Our WCW of the week – EunHa – has been in the industry for years. That means, she’s basically seen it all and been there before. Even through the rough times of growing up as the entertainment industry child, EunHa pulled through it all to debut as one of the best K-Pop girl groups of the century. Let us inspire you to go get your star in the sky with the reasons on why we absolutely love GFriend’s EunHa!
From the beginning to the present, find out what makes EunHa so crush worthy!
Woman Crush Wednesday: EunHa of GFriend
Who’s Our WCW
Our girl, EunHa was born on May 30, 1997 in Seoul, South Korea. Ever since she was young, EunHa was thrust into the entertainment industry. She began as a child actress and starred in minor roles. Even through the rough industry at a young age, EunHa found her true calling to be a K-Pop singer. She became a trainee at Big Hit Entertainment, alongside GFriend member SinB. When her plans to debut through Big Hit had failed, EunHa didn’t give up. She fought even harder. She debuted as a member of GFriend under Source Music, a brand new rookie label. Although the group’s resources were scarce and the girls were considered underdogs, the group pulled through with blood, sweat and talent. After their breakout “Me Gustas Tu”, the girls continue to climb higher and higher on the K-Pop hierarchy and now reign as powerful queens. Way to pull through and earn what you deserve, EunHa!
Why We Crush
EunHa is a beauty, that’s for sure. With her innocent puppy eyes and small baby face, many skeptical people expect the visual member of GFriend to stand still and be pretty. That’s not that case! EunHa is actually the lead vocalist as well, complimenting well with the main vocalist YuJu. To prove to her fans that she’s got the talent as much as the beauty, EunHa surprised many when she appeared on “King of Mask Singer”. She blew away the judges and the audience with her sweet rendition and proved once and for all that she’s got what it takes to be a K-Pop super star.
Where We’ve Seen Her
With her lovely, crystal clear voice, it makes sense that EunHa would be one of the top artists to collaborate with. Her first collab comes with BLOCK B’s Park Kyung with “Inferiority Complex”. Detailing the timid and common jealousy that every couple goes through, the two’s couple song hit high on various music charts. EunHa’s clear voice and Park Kyung’s sultry voice made the perfect harmony. EunHa was just born with a voice that compliments well with other famous artists!
Where We’ll See Her Next
EunHa’s love calls for special collaborations continue with a request by Hwang ChiYeol! Although it may not be an official schedule under GFriend, fans will be able to see and listen to our Kpop WCW through her latest feature with the heartthrob singer. The special collaboration single features the famous “Show Me the Money” contestant, Lil Boy of Geeks, which completes the perfect harmony of the three artists. Can’t wait to see even more musical events by our lovely queen!
