Boy Crush Monday: Vernon of SEVENTEEN
(HanSol Vernon Chwe)
Who’s Our BCM?
Vernon was born on February 18, 1998 in New York as HanSol Vernon Chwe. His family moved to Korea when he was 5 years old, so Vernon has spent most of his life in Korea moreso than the US. Even so, he never lost his English with the help of his parents, and was introduced and fell in love with the hip-hop genre. With his passion for rap and his stunning good looks, he quickly found a home at Pledis Entertainment. Through the label’s debut programs, “17TV” and “Seventeen Project: Big Debut Plan”, Vernon debuted on May 26th, 2015 as the main rapper for rookie group, SEVENTEEN.
Why We Crush
Vernon’s a good looking dude, but he’s got a big heart to match his warm smile. Vernon has a special place in his heart for his one and only younger sister, Sophia. When they were young, they often filmed English videos and even featured as child actors on an English channel program. When Vernon was debuting, he mentioned that he was most sorry to his sister for not being able to be there for her as often as he could. At the end of the clip, Sophia can be seen cheering for her brother with the same signature Chwe smile, proving their strong sibling bond. Don’t we all wish we had a caring brother like Vernon?!
Where We’ve Seen Him
Vernon’s full of passion and determination. Pre-debut, Vernon competed on Mnet’s “Show Me the Money 4” to test and challenge himself before his grand debut. Although he was looked down upon for his age and pre-debut skills, Vernon nailed a spot onto the 3rd round (Personally, we think they were just jealous of his good looks!). Since then, Vernon mentioned that he felt apologetic to his members for ‘selfishly’ deciding to appear on the program right before their debut. Although it got his name out, Vernon’s name wasn’t only seen in a positive light. The members all expressed their understanding that Vernon went to challenge himself and that they were glad that he was able to experience all that he could to prepare for their future.
Where We’ll See Him Next
CARATs will be able to see the strong bond between Vernon and his SEVENTEEN brothers again through their upcoming album, “Going Seventeen”! The group’s album drops on December 5th, which means that we’ll be seeing even more performances for their award ceremony stages. Get bundled up and your fan-girl packs ready, because it’s going to be a busy winter for all the Vernon fans. Award ceremonies, music show appearances, variety and reality shows – we can’t get enough of Vernon!

SEVENTEEN debuted on May 26, 2015 under Pledis Entertainment through a series of debut programs, such as “17TV” and “Seventeen Project: Big Debut Plan”. Through the broadcasts, Pledis introduced the final lineup of 13 boys who will make up their new team. The final lineup for the group consisted of S.Coups, WonWoo, MinGyu, Vernon, WooZi, JeongHan, Joshua, DK, SeungKwan, Hoshi, Jun, The8 and Dino.
As the first new boy group since NU’EST, SEVENTEEN received lots of love and attention since their pre-debut days as the younger brothers to some of the hottest K-Pop girl groups, such as Son DamBi, After School and Orange Caramel.
With most of the members having pre-debut fame and an active participation in their group’s music and choreography, SEVENTEEN is all set to make history as the perfectly well-rounded boy group of the century.
