2024 Wrap Up With NCT WISH: A Year Of Growth & Success

NCT WISH is the last NCT unit to be added in the ever-expanding K-Pop group. The group was formed from “NCT Universe: LASTART”, SM Entertainment’s survival show which led to a 7-member lineup announced last June 2023. The members are Sion, Yushi, Riku, Sakuya, DaeYoung or currently known as JaeHee, JungMin, and Ryo. However, JungMin was announced to depart the group for health reasons. The group continued under the supervision of BoA as their primary producer.

They were promoted with a pre-debut single release entitled ‘Hands Up’ in October 2023. Despite being a rookie group, their schedules have been jam-packed in their first year showing the group’s grit and resilience to achieve their dreams. Now, let’s take a look into the eventful year of NCT WISH.

 

January

Based on the announced schedule, there were no schedules for NCT WISH for the month in preparation for their debut. 

February

This month serves as a massive milestone for NCT WISH as they made their debut in the “SMTOWN LIVE 2024 SMCU” at Tokyo on the 28th. In the same event, they performed their pre-debut single ‘Hands Up’ and their debut single ‘WISH’. Their release also entailed a b-side entitled ‘Sail Away’ which fans showed great support.

 

March

To continue the momentum of their debut, NCT WISH promoted their 1st single across multiple music platforms from Korea to Japan. And just 21 days after their debut, they garnered their first ever music show win on SBS “The Show”. Alongside their promotions, they also featured on the cover of “Singles” magazine.

 

April

Both fans and the group greeted the month in celebration of Yushi’s birthday. With back to back schedules in Japan, one of the notable ones would be the “UTO Festival” held in Fukuoka where they were greatly supported.

 

May

In the month of May, Sion’s birthday was celebrated and the group attended their first “KCON in Japan”. NCT WISH also held their first fanmeeting called “NCT: SCHOOL of WISH” on the 25th of the month. They jump started the local tour in Seoul followed by Busan, Jeonju, Daegu, and Cheongju respectively. They performed back to back songs in the “Rakuten Girl’s Award Spring/Summer 2024”. To close off their month, they were also featured in GQ’s YouTube channel with a special series called “Wish’s List”.

June

In June, 2 members celebrated their birthdays, JaeHee and Riku. To follow up the success of their debut single, the group immediately released their 2nd single release ‘Songbird’ alongside another song entitled ‘Tears Are Falling’ through a summer movie. They also partook in their 3rd magazine cover feature for “Nylon Japan”, featuring a chic side of the group.

 

July

In line with the summer heat, NCT WISH displayed their burning passion as they performed for consecutive summer music festivals all over Asia. First being the “Tencent Music Entertainment Awards” held in Hong Kong. Followed by the “SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer Festival” in Korea and “FujiTV’s Mezamashi Live” in Japan.

 

August

There were quite a number of things the group and fans celebrated during August. First and foremost is Ryo’s birthday. This is soon followed by a win in the “2024 K-World Dream Awards” under the super rookie category. “ISAC” pre-recording also occurred, which marks their first appearance in the much awaited sports day every year. The participating members showed great athleticism that garnered attention, most especially Yushi for his speed in the relay race. The group closed the gap with a silver medal in their category.

 

September

“Steady” the 1st mini album released consecutive b-side tracks namely ‘Dunk Shot’, ‘3 minutes’ and ‘Steady’. Album details, jacket shoots and promotion schedules were given much thought and effort by their team that many fans acknowledged. With their succeeding releases, the group was all geared up for a month of promotions.

 

October

“Steady” being their first album was already memorable for the group but it became more special as the group won their first “Music Bank” show. The tearful response of Ryo crying was highly documented in their YouTube channel which the members continue to tease him with up to this day. They also attended the “30th Dream Concert” with a fresh performance. As a representation of a youthful concept, the group also released ‘Make You Shine’, an OST for “Pokemon”.

 

November

After ending their promotions, they immediately began November with a surprise – “NCT WISH ASIA TOUR LOG”. The announcement was made that they would be starting in Japan with the following cities: Ishikawa, Kyoto, Kanagawa, Hyogo, Fukuoka, Aichi. Currently, a follow up announcement has been made that they will continue the tour until 2025 with Seoul, Macau, Manila, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei, Jakarta and Bangkok on the line up. NCT WISH also celebrated their maknae, Sakuya’s birthday which became sensational for the unique surprise they brought the celebrant. In line with the holidays, NCT WISH also prepared a festive gift for everyone to celebrate with which is the release of their 1st Japanese album entitled “WISHFUL”.

 

December

The members have shown enthusiasm and told fans to look forward to their year end performances such as “Music Bank Global Festival” in Japan, “SBS Gayo Daejeon” and “2024 Asia Artist Award”.

As we close off 2024, we can truly say that NCT WISH deserves the applause for handling such a packed debut year. For each song release, they continue to promote in music shows whilst traveling back and forth countries.
