3 Reasons Why "20th Century Girl" Will Give You Absolute Butterflies

        Netflix

Netflix has been at the forefront at bringing multiple fantastic K-Dramas to a global audience. The streaming giant does not stop there, as it has also curated a large selection of Korean movies for fans to choose from. "20th Century Girl" joins Netflix's growing list of unforgettable films.

"20th Century Girl" made its Netflix premiere on October 21st. The main cast includes Kim YouJung, Byeon WooSeok, Park JungWoo, and Roh YoonSeo. The film experienced immediate global success as it ranked 7th worldwide on FlixPatrol on October 22nd, just a day after its release.

"20th Century Girl" follows four students as they begin their high school life. The film explores the joys and pains of falling in love, bonds of friendship, and heartbreak like no other. The film has a little bit of everything to satisfy any viewer.

Let's take a closer look at some reasons why "20th Century Girl" will give you absolute butterflies.

        This article contains some spoilers.

        1. Throwback To The 90's

While the movie does start off in the present day, it quickly sends viewers back in time and follows Na BoRa (played by Kim YouJung) as a budding teenager. For newer generations, it's a film with vintage novelty. In an interview, Park JungWoo expressed his love for analog and how the props had a retro feel on set.

For those who lived through that time, "20th Century Girl" is wave after wave of nostalgia. Being the oldest of the four main leads, Byeon WooSeok shared that when he was young, he borrowed a lot of VCRs. He was greatly reminded of his childhood while acting in the video shop. No matter your age, there's many enjoyable moments in this amazing film.

        2. Unwavering Friendship

While romance and nostalgia are some of the main focuses of the movie, it also shows the beauty of strong, long-lasting friendship. Before Kim YeonDu (played by Roh YoonSeo) heads over to America to receive heart surgery, she sees HyunJin (played by Park JungWoo) and falls in love at first sight. YeonDu asks BoRa to learn everything about HyunJin while she is receiving treatment in the United States.

BoRa executes her mission to perfection and constantly shows her commitment to aiding in YeonDu's happiness. The two exemplify what it means to be best friends and show just how much they care for each other. Even when obstacles come their way, BoRa and YeonDu put their friendship first, showing unwavering loyalty. Everyone needs a friendship like BoRa and YeonDu in their life.

        3. Innocent First Love

The idea of first love might seem simple and straightforward at first, but the Netflix film explores the various layers and complexities that is totally foreign and new to BoRa and crew. In using nostalgic elements and being set in the past, "20 Century Girl" gives that special feeling and message that our first love is indeed precious and unforgettable.

From just friends to first dates and heartfelt letters, the romance film tugs on your heartstrings with full force. "20th Century Girl" delivers with various scenes of fresh, high school love that will have you grinning from ear to ear.

This film has wonderful storytelling, a cast with amazing chemistry, and a warmth that will remain like a fond memory. What did you think about "20th Century Girl"? Let us know in the comments.
