Webtoon Differences: Comparison Of 22 Webtoon-Based K-Dramas And Their Webtoon

A lot of K-Dramas are actually based on existing webtoons and vice versa. Some K-Dramas are so good that they later get adapted into webtoons. However, webtoons and K-Dramas are very different. The writers of both often try to tell the story in a way that is exciting for their different audiences. As a result, many K-Drama lovers are curious about K-Dramas and their webtoon differences.

Over time, we have noticed some differences between the K-Drama version and the webtoon version of some popular K-Dramas. So we have started a series showcasing the differences between the storylines, the characters, and even some of the most iconic scenes.

Here is a list of webtoons and K-Dramas that are different from each other. There are articles linked under each one that goes into detail about what the exact differences are.

What the drama is about: It tells the mysterious story of the only female painter in the Joseon Dynasty (played by Kim YooJung) who befalls a terrible fate after entering the palace.

 

2. "Nevertheless,"

What the drama is about: The drama tells the realistic love story of Yu NaBi played by Han SoHee) and Park JaeEon (played by Song Kang). Yu NaBi doesn't trust the idea of love but she falls for Park JaeEon's flirtatious nature.

 

3. "Imitation"

What the drama is about: It tells the realistic story of K-Pop idols in the Korean entertainment industry and features a star-studded cast including Jung JiSo, U-KISS's Jun, ATEEZ's YunHo, T-ARA's JiYeon, and many more.

 

4. "My Roommate is a Gumiho"

What the drama is about: It is about a 999-year-old gumiho (Korean nine-tailed fox played by Jang KiYong) and a female university student born in 1999 (played by HyeRi) who end up living together because she swallowed his sacred bead.

 

5. "Yumi's Cells"

What the drama is about: The relatable story of Kim YuMi (played by Kim GoEun) and her ordinary life as an office worker. However, her emotions are conveyed to us through the perspective of the cells in her head.

 

6. "The King's Affection"

What the drama is about: It is the secret court romance drama of a woman who was abandoned because she was born as a girl (played by Park EunBin). When her twin brother died, she began to pretend to be him: the crown prince while trying to keep her identity and affection for her first love (played by SF9's RoWoon).

 

7. "Hellbound"

What the drama is about: The story of a supernatural phenomenon in which people are sentenced to hell from the messengers of hell who appear without notice, and the religious organization Saejinrihae, which was revived in this chaos, and those trying to uncover the truth of the incident are intertwined. The drama stars Yoo AhIn and Won JinA.

 

8. "Work Later, Drink Now"

What the drama is about: It is an authentic drama that tells the story of the daily lives of three women who believe that every day is a good day to have a drink.

The drama stars Apink's EunJi, Han SunHwa, Lee SunBin, and Super Junior's SiWon.

 

9. "Shadow Beauty"

What the drama is about: Koo AeJin (played by Shim DalGi), a high school girl who is bullied, lives a double life outside of the classroom as gorgeous star "Genie" (played by fromis_9's Lee NaGyung) on social media. The drama also stars Golden Child's BoMin and PENTAGON's HongSeok.

 

10. "The World Of My 17"

What the drama is about: Through the stories of friendship and growth of high school friends, it tells the lovely story of school days when friends are one's whole world. It stars OH MY GIRL's Arin, Hwang BoReumByeol, RyeoUn, and more.

 

11. "Love & Wish"

What the drama is about: It is a youth romance about a girl who dreams of fateful love (played by Choi YeBin) and a guy (played by GOT7's YoungJae) who suffers from trauma stemming from school violence.

 

12. " All of Us Are Dead"

What the drama is about: Starring Yoon ChanYoung (as Lee ChangSan), Park JiHu (as Nam OnJo), Cho YiHyun (as Choi NamRa), Lomon (as Lee SooHyuk), Jung YiSeo (as Kim HyeonJu), and more, the series and actors are getting a lot of hype. It tells the story of those isolated in a high school where a zombie virus has been spread and those who are trying to save them.

 

13. "Semantic Error"

What the drama is about: "Semantic Error" tells the story of a campus romance between the inflexible SangWoo (played by DONGKIZ’s Park JaeChan) and his encounter with the campus’ most popular student, JaeYoung (played by Park SeoHam).

 

14. "Business Proposal"

What the drama is about: The drama tells the story of an ordinary office worker (played by Kim SeJeong ) disguising herself and going on a blind date with her attractive boss (played by Ahn HyoSeop) in the place of her friend to end this unwanted marriage blind date after her request.

 

15. "Cherry Blossoms After Winter"

What the drama is about: Starring Super Five’s Ok JinWook (who plays HaeBom) and Kang Hui (( also known as Kang Hee) who plays Jo TaeSung, it tells the story of a friendship between two youths and their search for true love.

 

16. "Tomorrow"

What the drama is about: The drama tells the story of the jobseeker, Choi JunWoong, who fell into a coma and ended up as a member of the Special Crisis Management Team of the underworld.

 

17. "Again My Life"

What the drama is about: It tells the story of a prosecutor who gets a second chance at life to take down an evil politician.

 

18. "The Heavenly Idol"

What the drama is about: "The Heavenly Idol" tells the story of a powerfully divine high priest (named Rembrary) from another realm whose body gets switched with a K-Pop idol named Woo YeonWoo. Their bodies get switched in the midst of a battle against the devil. However, there is only one way to defeat this devil from this new world...

 

19. "A Shoulder To Cry On"

What the drama is about: "A Shoulder To Cry On" tells the story of Lee DaYeol (played by OMEGA X's JaeHan), who dreams of becoming an archery master, who encounters Jo TaeHyun (played by OMEGA X's YeChan), who hides his feelings because of past wounds. It's about their blooming romance that walks the line between love and hate.

 

20. "Duty After School: Part 1"

What the drama is about: "Duty After School" tells the story of senior high school students during the time of an alien invasion who suddenly get drafted into the military as reserve soldiers. They receive military training and end up going to war on top of the stress of preparing for their college entrance exams.

 

21. "The Director Who Buys Me Dinner"

What the drama is about: A new employee joins a company and thinks his director is crazy because he claims to have lived 3 lives. On top of that outlandish claim, the director insists that the two of them must date each other otherwise they will both die. The drama follows the two of them as they navigate the dynamics of their relationship amidst a fantasy in the entertainment sector.

 

22. "Unintentional Love Story"

What the drama is about: "Unintentional Love Story" tells the story of the falsely-accused Ji WonYoung who was suspended from his job after his superior was fired due to a corruption scandal. When he stumbles upon the chairman's favorite artist, he tries to use this as a means to get his job back. However, it's clear that the artist doesn't want to be found. WonYoung decides to try and find out what happened to Yoon TaeJoon (the artist) which leads to feelings he can't explain.
