Over the past few years, Korean entertainment has taken the world by storm, bringing in millions of new fans. Whether it’s shows like “Squid Game” or record breaking acts like BTS, there are many reasons why the Hallyu wave continues to rise.

But have you ever been curious about what happens behind the camera? Or even how actors and idols rise to fame? Well there’s a K-Drama out there that can answer those questions!

We all know that K-Dramas cover various settings, ranging from the palaces of Joseon to the cubicles in an office. Some dramas even give its viewers an insight into the life of trainees, idols, and actors.

1. "Sh**ting Stars"

Starting off this list we have "Sh**ting Stars" which premiered on April 22 of this year. This drama takes us into the day to day operations of Star Force Entertainment and the people that work behind the scenes to make their celebrities shine as bright as the stars above. Lee SungKyoung plays the hardworking and competent public relations team leader, Oh HanByeol. Beside her is Kim YoungDae as Gong TaeSeong, renowned actor and face of Star Force. These two, along with  the support of Yoon JongHoon, Kim YoonHye, Girl's Day SoJin, and CNBLUE's Lee JungShin, make every moment brighter than the last, bringing an abundance of smiles and laughter to its viewers.

 

2. "The Best Hit"

From headline making scandals to the uncertainty of being a trainee, and even behind the scenes of a failing entertainment company, "The Best Hit" covers various aspects of the industry. Although the themes of this drama might be serious, the many comedic elements used (puns, slapsticks, etc.) make it lighthearted and fun for all to enjoy. "The Best Hit" is directed by and stars Chae TaeHyun; he is joined by Yoon ShiYoon, Kim MinJae, Lee SeYoung, Dong HyunBae, ASTRO's Cha EunWoo, and WJSN's BoNa. With such an amazing cast, this drama is sure to be the next big hit on your list.

 

3. "Record Of Youth"

Although this drama might center around the world of actors, it gives its viewers a look into two very unique parts of the entertainment industry: make up artists and models. "Record of Youth" follows the lives of Sa HyeJoon (played by Park BoGum), a successful model aspiring to become an actor, and Ahn JungHa (played by Park SoDam), a make up artist who strives to be recognized for her skills. Along with their friends played by Byeon WooSeok and Kwon SooHyun, the four navigate the rough waters of the entertainment industry in order to achieve their dreams and recognition from both peers and family. This drama is sure to give you hope and the inspiration to never give up!

 

4. "The Producers"

"The Producers" made its original run from May 2015 to June 2015 and has cemented itself as a classic ever since. Initially filmed in a mockumentary style, not only does this drama have a star-studded cast in Cha TaeHyun, Kong HyoJin, Kim SooHyun, and IU, but it also features numerous cameos from various celebrities. Aside from an inside look into the broadcasting world and the tireless crew that puts everything together, "The Producers" is special in that it focuses on the behind the scenes of hit Korean television show "2 Days 1 Night". This drama showcases the difficulty of saving a show from poor ratings and what needs to be done in order to do so. "The Producers" is one of a kind and should definitely be added to your watch list.

 

5. "IDOL: The Coup"

This drama is a touching story that takes a look into the hardships of idols and their lack of success. "IDOL: The Coup" doesn't stray away from its objective by adding a romantic storyline. Rather, it goes all in on the journey of failing girl group Cotton Candy and their efforts to achieve one last win before their disbandment. This realistic approach is amplified due to the casting of actual girl group members featuring EXID's HaNi, WJSN's Exy, LABOUM's SolBin, REDSQUARE's Green, and actress Han SoEun. This drama provides many lessons about failure and encourages its audience to continue forward despite the hardships.

 

6. "The Liar And His Lover"

An adaption from a Japanese manga and drama of the same name, "The Liar and His Lover" revolves around Yoon SoRim (played by Red Velvet's Joy) and Kang HanKyeol (played by Lee HyunWoo) as they pursue their musical dreams and aspirations while also falling in love. It portrays two sides of success: an amateur band looking for its big break and an already established songwriter. From stepping into the recording studio for the first time to creating a song to be loved by the public, "The Liar and His Lover" gives us many reasons to root for its characters. It's definitely a feel good drama that you do not want to miss!

 

7. "Imitation"

Based off of the popular webtoon with the same name, "Imitation" follows several idols as they forge their path through the entertainment industry. While the drama does tackle the usual topics like chasing after your dreams and and being positive despite failure, it also touches upon themes of mourning and loss. The cast of "Imitation" includes U-KISS's Jun, Jung JiSo, T-ARA's JiYeon, ATEEZ's YunHo, and SF9's Chani, among many others. So if you're looking for a drama with a cast filled with K-Pop idols, then this is for you.

 

8. "Dream High"

This might be an older drama, but "Dream High" is still iconic and remembered by many. It tells the story of a group of youth who attend an Art High School in order to pursue their dreams of becoming a star. The main cast of students include Kim SooHyun, Suzy, 2PM's Ok TaecYeon & WooYoung, T-ARA's EunJung, and IU. This drama combines the difficulties of the entertainment world and life as a student. It also adds in moments of heartwarming romance that will make your heart flutter and skip a beat. With its music themes and and amazing chemistry from the cast, this drama will definitely get you singing in no time.
