With the help of the latest producing team sensation, Midas-T, the boys released a 2 track digital single. Midas-T is well known as the team behind the track “Pick Me” for Produce 101. The boys may have an average age of 15, but they’ve got the full support from some of the top artists in the industry. Big names, such as VIXX, EXO, and TWICE, have all sent their love for the band through personal messages.
From such an early start to a whole spectrum of possibilities, we bring you the 9 things that can only be found at a showcase by the newly debuted The East Light!
The East Light’s “HOLLA” Showcase
Brought to you by your friends at Kpopmap.
1. The East Host
Hong KyungMin took time out of his busy schedule to personally host the showcase for the young boys of The East Light. The veteran artist began by praising the boys, referring himself as the band’s 1st ever ajussi-fan. Hong KyungMin told the audience how the boys were featured on his “Immortal Song” performances, and how they continue to amaze him with their endless growth. Apparently the pop rock legend had spotted the boys’ talent a while ago, and now holds a soft spot just for the boys.
2. The East Producer
Producer Kim ChangHwan‘s name is widely known in the Korean music industry. After working alongside Korean legends, such as Kim GunMo, ChaeYeon and more, the producer crossed paths with a genius drummer still in his elementary days – Lee SeokChul. With an inspiration from the EDM genre, Kim ChangWan began forming out his dream about creating a unique band that has the sole focus of music. After 4 years of vigorous training, The East Light was finally ready to unveil themselves to the world!
3. The East Kids
The boys first entered the stage in their very unique janitorial costume complemented by luscious, curly wigs. The boys may have the skills of full grown professional artists, but the boys are still just boys. With an average age of 15, The East Light boys were stiff with nervousness written all over their faces. The five boys were an adorable sight to see throughout the photo time, as they each struck a pose that best expressed their personality. Each of the members felt like baby brothers that we couldn’t help but applaud for!
4. The East Jung SaKang
Vocalist Jung SaKang felt like a cute kid during the photo time, but as soon as he took the stage and the music started, his mood shifted 180 degrees. The East Light performed a cover of ‘Uptown Funk’ as their opening song, and SaKang showed his true talented colors. He literally owned the stage with his own style of expressive motions and facial expressions that were hard to believe belonged to a teenager. Add in his incredible vocal capabilities and the band’s undeniable love for music, and we can see this little star going very far, very soon.
5. The East I Am Who I Am
The group’s second performance was the 2nd track off their debut single album, “I Am Who I Am”. Lee EunSung introduced the song as a track that they co-wrote from their experience of being young musicians. In a society where they are expected to be holed up behind a book all day, The East Light boys had faced negative judgement from the public. With their dreams and passion in mind, the boys performed the song and their true feelings shined brightly. Near the end of the track, Kim JunWook nailed a guitar solo that literally summarized the feel behind the song in a mere minute.
6. The East Musicians
They may be young teenagers with much to learn and experience, but they truly are musicians. During the short interview, JunWook, SeokChul and SeungHyun showcased a highlight of their instrumental talent. JunWook took to the electric guitar and created an exciting melody just by gracing his fingers on the guitar’s neck. SeokChul took up his drum sticks to perform a short, but sweet, drum line that got our hearts pumping. Lastly, Lee SeungHyun got his bass to nail a groovy rhythm. Each member proved just why the band was called a band of music geniuses!
7. The East Holla
The term, “Holla” comes from the German word meaning ‘stop’. The East Light’s title track is named after the word to reflect on the simple struggles that they face at their age. The boys want to have fun and enjoy their youth, but adults constantly tell them to stop and do this and that. The song reflects the band’s desire to ignore the rules and regulations and truly live in the moment. The lyrics and rhythm tell the exact story as the boys boldly sing, play on their instruments, and truly enjoy the stage. They’re just doing what they love – music.
8. The East Hidden Card
The band is known as a 6 member group, which got the audience wondering: why are there only five? At the end of the boys’ debut music video, a young boy is seen bursting through the door and finding the band gone – much to his disappointment. Vocalist, Lee WooJin is a 14 years old middle school student who was unveiled as the band’s hidden card. WooJin is the 3rd vocalist who appeared on “Voice Kids”, as well as in movies before. Just as it was seen in the music video, Lee WooJin was just a step too late in participating with the band. Although WooJin wasn’t able to participate in the band’s debut album, he will be completing the group for their next promotions!
9. The East Light
Although The East Light made their official debut, the boys are still students. The boys continue to go to school everyday, and only finding time to practice together during their free time. The East Light asks for their audiences to forgo their age and visuals, and solely focus on their music. The 5 music geniuses may be young, but their bright future will be something to look forward to.
