A Jamaican Player Talks About Her Favorite Group SUPERKIND And Her Bias Geon

So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

Hello, I am Jav. I'm the first Jamaican SUPERKIND fan/Player, or that's what I like to think of myself as…

How and when did you enter the fandom?

That's a funny story actually. I was binging TikTok after a very uneventful day and that's when I saw SaeJin on my for you page. I saw him for a brief second then scrolled. Later, I saw SaeJin yet again but this time he was on my YouTube recommendations. I reluctantly clicked and watched their music video 'Watch Out' since I had nothing else to do. The MV was so alluring and all the members were so handsome. Next thing I knew, SUPERKIND was haunting my Twitter so I just gave up and joined the group's discord on July 26, 2022. Now I'm completely hooked on the group!

What are the reasons why you love your favorite group?

The main reason I love SUPERKIND is because they are different. Yes, their concept of having now 2 and soon more virtual members is quite a unique thing for a group, but it's the connection they maintain with their fans. I've never been able to joke around with my idols casually and surprisingly, they reciprocate it. Also to add on their difference from usual K-Pop, SUPERKIND is player-driven. Players are given the opportunity to create content along with influencing the release of future music videos. At the moment, SUPERKIND has implemented a player gauge which has the purpose of counting players. Once a set amount of players are obtained, rewards will be given. One reward being a new music video!

Who caught your attention at first and why?

Eugene was the first human member that caught my eye. I'm not so easily charmed but he and his fluffy blonde hair stole my heart.

Who is your bias, and why?

Geon is my bias. He has good looks but it's his charismatic and uplifting nature that really captured me. His best interest is in the health of his fans. He's honestly just a very caring person and it pulls you towards him. He also has a really goofy smile that is so infectious!

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?

'Watch Out' is a good starter and let's all be patient for their new song 'Moody'!

Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers?

Are there any words from the members you would like to share?

"Don't skip your meals!" Every single member has said this to Players and it hasn't been a one time thing. Even if a person would consider this the bare minimum, I couldn't care less. The positive communication that is shared between SUPERKIND and Players is so heartwarming and lovely to see.

What is your favorite group/bias' influence on your daily life?

They are a group of hard working individuals. They inspire and they motivate me in so many ways. Geon is a weight lifter. He always pushes me to take care of my body since it is my own and I shouldn't mistreat it. I make sure to throw in a little stretch here and there during my daily activities but I don't think I'll ever be as dedicated to exercising as Geon is.

What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying?

I don't know why but I turn into a different person when I see Geon shirtless…. He's so… buff. Eugene's squishy cheeks pull at my heartstrings. All he has to do is send a selfie and I find myself adding him to my will. SiO has such a cute way of speaking. He's just so adorable. Then Daemon… You can't predict anything he'll say. Just prepare to be blown away by his narcissism. JuChan is new but he's already made a big impact on me with his dancing and visuals. His laugh is so pure. SaeJin and Seung… You stay handsome!

Do you feel there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite group from other fans (non-fans)?

Many people say they feel uneasy about having an AI being a member of a K-Pop group. They also like to add that they pity the other members since SaeJin is the center and they feel as if he'll steal their spotlight. I find it quite funny that they feel some sort of empathy to the human members yet can't name one. That's some real passionate care if you ask me. Definitely. If people actually cared about the attention SUPERKIND's human members would be receiving then they'd have joined the fandom. Bully SaeJin all you want, it's publicity and even he said he was grateful.
