Dance studios are all the rage in Korea! Here's how to sign up for them.
Kianna, Staff WriterIf you're a fan of the Korean entertainment scene, surely you've heard about how amazing the dance community is in the country. Dancing is one of the most popular hobbies in South Korea and with the rise of shows and K-Pop, it's gaining more and more popularity. If you plan to visit South Korea and love dance, there are many dance studios you can visit and take classes at! Since there are too many studios to count, we've listed some popular ones you should visit! Here are some dance studios in Korea and how you can attend them.
JUSTJERK Dance Academy is a prominent and respectable studio in South Korea. Its reputation is widely known in and outside of Korea due to its lineup of teachers. The academy was on the popular series "Street Man Fighter" where they placed first! The famous choreographer Bada Lee resides at JUSTJERK and she has made many choreos for groups such as NCT, aespa, and THE BOYZ. If you're a fan of synergetic and fun classes, you might want to visit this studio in Korea! It has two branches located in Ehwa and Hapjeong area. Class tickets must be purchased in person, costing around 30,000 won for one class. Be warned, if you want to take a popular teacher's class you should come early! Their tickets normally sell out.
If you're a K-Pop fan, you might be familiar with 1MILLION Dance Studio. Probably one of the biggest studios in Korea, 1MILLION has made numerous K-Pop choreographies for groups like MAMAMOO, aespa, and TWICE. The studio has an impressive structure, being 2 stories tall and filled with memorabilia that shows the extensive history of the studio. Lia Kim is the founder of this studio and she is a prominent name in Korea's dance industry. 1MILLION also participated in "Street Woman Fighter 2!" The studio is very organized and has a website where you can purchase tickets at 28,000 won for a single class. All of their classes can get busy fast so make sure to book tickets as soon as you can!
mu.tudio was founded by the famous Mina Myoung and if you like something a little more relaxed, this studio is for you. The studio is comfortable enough that you won't have to worry about having too many eyes on you but still gain valuable class experience. mu.tudio's teaching is hands-on since the classes aren't crowded and it will greatly improve your dance skills! The thing that is different about this studio is the sign-up process. mu.tudio doesn't use a website for sign-up but instead uses Google forms. If you want to take a class, make sure to fill out the form ahead of class time. There's a deposit fee that you need to pay for a reservation and the full ticket price is 30,000 won. You can pay on-site as well, but maybe denied if the class is sold out!
YGX is an elite studio where all of YG Entertainment's idols have trained! The studio is popular for its iconic backdrop in the dance studio which is well known by many K-Pop fans. This studio participated in both seasons of "Street Woman Fighter" and "Street Man Fighter." The teachers at this dance studio are famously known as the main choreographers for BLACKPINK, BABYMONSTER, and many more groups! You may even get the chance to learn from worldwide teachers at YGX as they hold many workshops throughout the year. Tickets start at 30,000 won and popular classes tend to sell out quickly!
