With the success of the recent K-Pop concert held in North Korea, it’s been a hot conversation topic among K-netizens.
It may have even been slightly surreal for Red Velvet members to have been right in front of North Korea’s leader Kim JongUn himself.
In fact, if you think about it, it’s much easier to meet K-Pop idols than Kim JongUn. To meet K-Pop idols, all you have to do is buy a ticket to their concert or fan meeting. To meet Kim JongUn, well, it probably won’t ever happen in this lifetime for the vast majority of people in this world.
But moving on, the group photo taken after the concert has been the subject of a lot of conversations among netizens. The reason? Kim CheolWoong, a professor at Seoul National University, has stated that it was more than likely that Irene was right beside Kim JongUn at the time the photograph was taken.
The professor believes that Kim JongUn is a leader who thoroughly manages his public image, especially to the South Korean media. He further went on and guessed that Kim JongUn was someone who regards himself as a modern leader who is aware of popular mainstream culture as opposed to an old-fashioned and conservative one.
This means that it was more than likely that Irene was intentionally placed next to the North’s leader when taking the photograph so that the photograph would make it to the South Korean news media and eventually to the public as well.
