Big Hit Entertainment CEO Bang SiHyuk recently spoke about BTS’s global success at the ASEAN-ROK Culture Innovation Summit.
During his speech, he spoke about the importance of global audiences actively translating the agency’s contents into different languages. This part of his speech drew criticism from some netizens as they felt he was taking advantage of some fans by using them as free labor.
Of course, other netizens also did point out that the translations were also done voluntarily and wasn’t something to be considered as problematic.
Some ARMY have stated that Big Hit Entertainment should hire a translation team of their own and not take advantage of free labor.
And we all know just how devoted and supportive BTS’s fandom is towards their idol group as they would probably do literally anything for the group’s benefit.
This does potentially give birth to a scenario where the love can be sometimes overlooked and not given enough due credit.
ARMY are fans who also have their own busy lives to live yet spend a substantial amount of time and effort in contributing to BTS’s continued success.
But as mentioned before, because the translations were done voluntarily out of love for BTS, it’s difficult to completely criticize Bang SiHyuk at the same time.
