BTS & EXO Fans Take Social Media Competition Way Too Seriously? Why So Desperate?
While poorly organized K-Pop awards events and K-Pop websites, such as MAMA, Golden Disc Awards, and Melon Music Awards are very unreliable sources that accurately represents data, given that many fans use illegal means of voting for their idol groups in so-called “popularity contests” and more, Wikipedia leaves no room for any leniency when it comes to distortion of data.
A Wikipedia user, West.andrew.g, accumulated data of EXO and BTS‘s Wikipedia page, revealing that they ranked ninth and twenty fifth respectively.
However, Wikipedia claims that this data was manipulated and that visits to the idol group’s pages have been intentionally organized. They stated
“A Twitter search later, turns out the EXO-L and the BTS A.R.M.Y takes the Social 50 too seriously, and given Wikipedia views contribute to said rankings, they visit their group of choice’s page really often to boost the article views. Gaming the system is not something we will condone!”
In addition, EXO fans have been exposed again for blatantly manipulating data, as they were also recently caught by SBS for illegal votings during the 33rd Golden Disc Awards.
