Leading entertainment powerhouse CJ ENM has reiterated its dedication to spearheading the global expansion of K-Pop and music content as it marks its 30th anniversary. To commemorate three decades of cultural innovation, the company hosted a private special exhibition, “House of the Visionary: Story to Culture,” on March 6 at its headquarters. The event featured an insightful discussion with the chief producers behind some of CJ ENM’s most iconic music programs.

Since its entertainment business debut in 1995, CJ ENM has been at the forefront of Korea’s cultural industry, driving the global popularity of K-Content. Through Mnet, its premier music channel, CJ ENM has played a pivotal role in K-Pop’s evolution, from launching industry-defining talent search programs to orchestrating the rise of new-generation idols. Notably, Mnet’s “BOYS PLANET” led to the debut of ZEROBASEONE, one of K-Pop’s most successful fifth-generation boy groups.

For three decades, Mnet has solidified its place in the global K-Pop landscape, producing industry-leading programs such as “M COUNTDOWN”, the world’s No.1 K-Pop chart show, and “MAMA AWARDS”, K-Pop’s premier global awards ceremony. As CJ ENM looks to the future, it remains committed to expanding K-Pop’s reach through its Music Creative eco-System (MCS)—a strategy encompassing intellectual property (IP) planning, platform development, and artist management.

Pioneering the Next Chapter of K-Pop and K-Dance Culture

During the exhibition’s panel discussion, CJ ENM’s Chief Producers Kim ShinYoung and Choi JungNam shared insights into their latest projects, “BOYS II PLANET” and “WORLD OF STREET WOMAN FIGHTER”.

Kim ShinYoung, the creative force behind “BOYS PLANET”, emphasized the company’s commitment to talent discovery and innovation. “Our focus remains on uncovering potential, nurturing talent, and creating new frontiers in entertainment,” Kim stated. The upcoming “BOYS II PLANET” is set to be the world’s first-ever global twin K-Pop project, forming two distinct debut groups—one in Korean and one in Chinese—catering to different linguistic and regional markets. The show is slated for release in the latter half of the year.

The success of ZEROBASEONE, formed through “BOYS PLANET”, underscores Mnet’s ability to launch globally influential acts. The nine-member group has secured 18 rookie awards within six months of debut, achieved five consecutive million-selling albums, and topped Japan’s Oricon Weekly Album Ranking and Weekly Combined Album Ranking. Similarly, “I-LAND2: N/a” produced izna, a K-Pop girl group that debuted to international success, topping Japan’s Apple Music K-Pop Album Ranking and entering iTunes Top 10 Album charts in 14 countries.

Meanwhile, Choi JungNam, the mastermind behind the “STREET WOMAN FIGHTER” franchise, is preparing to take K-Dance to a global level with “WORLD OF STREET WOMAN FIGHTER”, set to premiere in May. “This series will showcase elite dance crews from around the world competing for the title of the best global dance crew,” Choi explained. The “STREET” series has already left a significant impact on global K-Dance culture, with viral dance challenges and widespread fan engagement.

Mnet Celebrates Three Decades of K-Pop Leadership

Mnet also marked its 30th anniversary on March 1, reinforcing its role as a key player in shaping the K-Pop industry. To honor its legacy, the network introduced a new brand slogan: “K-POP GENERATION Mnet”, highlighting its commitment to connecting music fans across generations and borders.

With its continued efforts to innovate and globalize K-Pop, CJ ENM remains a driving force in the entertainment industry, pushing boundaries and setting new standards in music and K-Dance content worldwide. As the company embarks on its next chapter, its influence on the global music scene is poised to grow even stronger.
