Companies Cancel CF Deals With X1 Due To ‘Produce X 101’ Vote Rigging Controversy
Things are looking somewhat grim for X1, the debut line up comprised of the winners of Mnet’s ‘Produce X 101’. The alleged vote rigging controversy seems to have taken a toll on the group as South Korean news agency Sports Chosun recently reported that several companies have canceled their CF deals with the group as they feel the current controversy may also bring about unnecessary bad publicity to them as well.
One company stated:
“The unfortunate news is currently much to publicized. We don’t have much choice but to take into account of possible consumer reactions. It’s also not an easy position for the business as well. While the project may be open once more, we are canceling for now. There are no plans for a pictorial shoot at the moment.”
Another representative of a different company stated:
“While the group’s CF shoot wasn’t contracted, it was scheduled earlier on. But we have decided that it would be best not to proceed with the plans. As you may be aware, there have been some negative news surrounding Produce X 101’s alleged vote rigging controversy. We’ve decided to observe how everything plays out.”
At the moment, investigations are still ongoing. There have even been an alleged recording of staff members directly discussing the vote rigging process during a search and seizure of CJ E&M.
