2PM just returned with their 6th full-album, “Gentlemen’s Game”, on September 12, 2016! With 8 years under their belt, 2PM certainly has gone under more than a few stages of change. To celebrate the group’s long awaited comeback, we look back at the group throughout the years!
Debut to Now: 2PM
1. Discography (Album Covers)
2PM debuted on September 4th, 2008 with their first single, “Hottest Time of the Day” with title track “10 Out of 10”. When “pretty boys” were all the craze, 2PM changed the K-Pop game with their manly, beastly image. Since then the boys have 6 full length albums and multiple single/mini-albums under their belt. The beginning of phase of their albums were mainly hip hop, R&B dance tracks. As the years went by, the boys took a turn to bring in a more electric vibe with their signature hit, “Hands Up” and “Go Crazy”. Overall, the image of the 2PM boys toned down to more gentlemen-esque feels than rowdy boys.
TaecYeon was famous as the “boy who beat puberty” when he first debuted. After gaining attention for his nerdy pre-debut photos, TaecYeon proved just how manly he’d gotten by ripping his shirts off to show us his six packs and just owning the beast-face. As the years went by, we feel the idol became much more smooth. He dropped his beast rage for a masculine sex appeal, especially since he started getting into the acting field.
The Thai Prince was always loved for his baby face, but muscular body. That’s never going to change. Ever the visual of the group, NichKhun’s popularity for his good looks remained unchanged since 2008 to 2016. Vampire much? One thing that has changed is the fact that his Korean improved drastically. Don’t you think he look more Korean, now?
4. Jun. K
Jun. K is probably the member with the most changes since their debut. First, he’s changed his name all together. He was born, Kim JunSu (same as TVXQ/JYJ’s JunSu) and debuted as JunSu. However, his mother decided to change his name to Kim MinJun after a shaman told her that Kim JunSu would not bring her son good fortune. After his name change, JunSu/MinJun started to go by Jun. K on stage. You may also notice that Jun. K’s undergone plastic surgery since his debut. But what hasn’t changed? His everlasting singing talent, of course! Jun.K is and forever will be 2PM’s lead singer, as well as recent composer!
The 2PM dancing machine hasn’t changed much since their debut. One thing that had changed since debut was when Jay Park left. Without the main dancer and lead singer, WooYoung had to step up to the plate to fill in Jay’s parts. As the main dancer and main vocalist of 2PM, WooYoung’s skills as a musician has since grown tremendously. Not to mention, WooYoung shed his cute baby face for a more manly vibe since delving into the acting scene.
JunHo was the member who had struggled in finding his signature color among the group. During his debut days, JunHo never received much of the attention, but that all changed. Ever since debut, JunHo became active as a singer-songwriter, dancer and actor. With his multi-skills JunHo found his own identity among the 2PM members and finally feel comfortable in his own skin.
What’s funny about ChanSung is that as the years go by, he starts to look more and more like the maknae that he is. When 2PM first debuted, no one would have guessed that ChanSung was the maknae. Everyone called him the “old maknae”, because of his mature-for-his-age looks. However, they say that those with mature faces grow up with the same face to eventually become dong-ahns (people who look young for their age). That’s exactly what ChanSung is! Compared to their debut days, when you look at 2PM’s group photos now, you won’t be too surprised to hear that ChanSung is the baby of the group.
