El Jueves Under Heavy Criticism For Mocking Death Of SHINee JongHyun And K-Pop

Twitter

Barcelona-based magazine agency El Jueves is currently under heavy criticism for mocking the tragic death of SHINee member JongHyun and K-Pop in general.

To illustrate the idea that K-Pop is full of sexual abuse, depression, suicide, and other negative elements, the magazine agency used a cartoon showing a ghost with pink hair, supposedly representing JongHyun, with the dialogue “At 27! Just like my buddies Jimi Hendrix, Janis, Jim Morrison, Kurt!”

So far, 25,000 people have joined a petition on ‘CHANGE’, an global online petition website, demanding that El Jueves be shut down.

On the other hand, some have defended El Jueves, saying that the magazine publishes satire, and isn’t attacking K-Pop specifically, but the dark side of it.

What is your stance on the issue?

It’s disgusting, disappointing, and disturbing that they thought it was right to mock someone’s death. He had severe depression and he wasnt happy,I can’t dare to imagine the pain Jonghyun went through. He killed himself and they thought making fun of his death is a good thing, like I said earlier,it’s disgusting! It also seemed like they were making fun if suicide, something that takes the lives of most people in this world!Suicide is nothing to mess around with, same thing with depression! It doesnt even seem like they were critisizing the dark side of K-pop.Then they are saying that you can’t even tell a K-pop Idol apart from… Read more »

Why? Just why? Why is this even a thing? He had depression, a severe case of it. Many of my non-K-pop friends say he did for attention, and this is the kind of thing that “ratifies” their point. He was sick, goddammit! He didn’t do it for attention! Things and people like this make me question my faith in humanity. Tell me, El Jueves, did you have fun mocking our beloved star? Was it worth it?

Cheap. Low. Embarrassing. They should be ashamed. This paper is no good, except for igniting the fireplace.

How it’s this supposed to be funny is beyond my understanding?

It’s a shame to use someone’s death as a joke like this.

This is sick.
Death is not a joke for some comic. Suicidenis not a joke. And they are not showing the dark side of kpop they are mocking them. How can a person go so low to publish this and think it’s alright to joke about death. Oh but it’s Kpop.~~ no talking about suicide is not alright at all and it angers me because of it were an American artist everyone would care. So they chose mock a kpop idol who passed away then say that fans will just move to another artist
this is just a new level of low

That’s not attacking the dark side you fucking stupid idiots. First of all calling all k-pop artists a copy of each other just because you can’t recognize faces is just rude. Your just blind stop blaming them for being beautiful.

Second his death is not a joke. Just because you don’t know him doesn’t mean you could make fun of him. Fucking warped person who made this damn comic. It’s not like we go around calling your idol’s death a funking joke.

(Sorry I cursed so much this just makes me so frustrated)
