On July 6, 2021, ENHYPEN made their high-awaited Japanese debut with their EP "BORDER: Hakanai". ENHYPEN found praise and success in Japan even before their official debut there so expectations were high on how ENHYPEN was going to make their official initiation into the Japanese music industry and commercial market. However, as it turns out, ENHYPEN passed with flying colours, making a lasting impression with their creativity, talent and artistic genius with this EP.
Concept
BELIFT Lab
ENHYPEN's concept for "BORDER: Hakanai" leans more towards a gentle and scholarly side. The members are shown as being keen yet calm and the schoolboy visual theme adds to the concept. Perhaps this feeds into the concept of the ideal man, who is beautiful and artistic yet sharp and perceptive at the same.
Two sets of concept photos were released, both in a group format and an individual format. The first set (pictured on the top left and right) shows the members in all white, serene and peaceful. They're outside, with the sun peaking through the white curtain and there is a sense of stillness in the air. However, it also seems momentary.
In the second set, pictured on the bottom left and right, the members are in school uniforms, showcasing their boyish charms. They look more active but still calm and represent the passion of youth.

The concept photos of ENHYPEN for "BORDER: Hakanai" have the members wearing all white, whether that be shirts and cardigans or trousers and shoes on the one hand and school uniforms on the other. However, the performance outfits for the Japanese version of 'Given-Taken' are a bit more interesting. The members are wearing ripped black jeans with combat boots and variations of shirts on top. Perhaps the fashion is kept minimalistic and simple to place the focus entirely on the performance. In the music video for 'Given-Taken' (Japanese version), the members also sport all-black outfits, paired with silver chains.
Dance
ENHYPEN are known for their intense and lyrical choreography that you can't take your eyes off of. As such, it is only natural that their choreography for the Japanese version of 'Given-Taken' would be just as powerful. Even though it is almost the same, the execution has a different vibe to it which we can't ignore.

"BORDER: Hakanai" is composed of 3 songs: the Japanese version of 'Given-Taken' from "BORDER: DAY ONE", the Japanese version of their b-side track from the same album, 'Let Me In (20 CUBE)' and a brand new Japanese song 'Forget Me Not'. Together, they span 9 minutes and 39 seconds. There's no such thing as being lost in translation for ENHYPEN because they effectively convey the same sentiments as their Korean counterparts through the Japanese versions.
ENHYPEN once again climbed high on several music charts with their Japanese debut, including the Oricon Daily Singles Chart among others. The boys are showing unbelievable growth with each comeback and we cannot wait to see what they have in store for us next.
