DAY6's subunit Even of Day is back with another emotionally charged mini-album titled "Right Through Me". This subunit consists of Young K, who's on the bass, WonPil on the keys and DoWoon on the drums. Despite being a mini-album, it is made up of 7 songs, with 'Right Through Me' as the title track. The album officially dropped on July 5, 2021, marking their much-awaited comeback. This mini-album is entirely self-written by the members themselves, enhancing the personal quality of the same.

        Concept

"Right Through Me" follows Even of Day's debut with "The Book Of Us: Gluon - Nothing Can Tear Us Apart" and is once again a rather dreamy and emotional album. It has a beautiful Wong KarWai vibe to it when it comes to aesthetics and the retro colours are soothing to look at.

Neon lights are contrasted with black and white and sepia tones in the concept photos. The overall theme seems to be inspired by the "newtro" wave. The mood is solemn and each member looks beautifully mature. The group concept photo radiates charm even in considerable darkness. The individual concept photos are set in desaturated colours, with the members' names highlighted.

The colour palettes evoke a sense of nostalgia and a time long gone. With the scenes set in dark study rooms or living spaces, we're ushered into a deep part of the members' psyche that is later introduced to us through their music. Several group intro films, concept films and more were also released, to delve deep into the sentiments that went into this album. Each member dissected their contribution, exploring how and why the album came about. From anxieties about the future to gratitude for the past: these are the feelings reflected in "Right Through Me".

        Fashion and Appearance

The fashion elements are kept subtle for this comeback, suited to the group's alt-rock sound. There are no flashy outfits and showy accessories but rather soft silk shirts, earthy tones and neutral suits.

Young K is seen wearing a floral silk shirt which he laters tops with a dark blazer. Besides a very slim chain around the neck, there are no visible accessories. His hair is parted to the side, as always but it is just the right amount of clean and careless.

WonPil wears a red and white patterned shirt that he too, layers with a beige blazer in the next concept photo. WonPil's hair is also parted to the side but while the first picture (to the left) shows us a casual side to him, the second one (to the right), gives us a more mature look.

DoWoon's fashion in his concept photos is perhaps the most distinctive and contrasting. In one, he's wearing a blazer over a black shirt with a floral collar. His hair is sleeked up, exposing his forehead, which automatically gives him a masculine charm. He too, is wearing a chain around his neck as the only accessory. The other concept photo makes him look younger and more naive, with his hair down and a cardigan over a plain white t-shirt. It is always amazing to see DoWoon's duality.

        Music & Music Video

The album is made up of 7 songs, spanning 24 minutes and 38 seconds. With the members having written their own songs, they also own all the credits to the same. The album starts out with 'We', followed by the title track 'Right Through Me', 'Walk', 'All The Things You Wanted', 'From The Ending Of A Tragedy', 'Home Alone' and ends with 'Love Parade', charting a complete journey of emotions.

The music video for 'Right Through Me' has a Hong Kong cinematic essence. It is uniquely neo-noir but the subject matter is not violent. Rather, it speaks of the pain surrounding love had and love lost.

An album commentary film was also released, post the album drop, which featured the members expressing their thoughts and opinions over how the album turned out, what their hopes and aspirations are with the same and how they feel about the finished product.

Recently, a live clip of the song was also released, putting the talents of the members especially when it comes to live performance on full display. As always, while their music videos surely impress, their live performances are even more amazing.

Even of Day has shown incredible growth through this album and we can't wait to see what they have in store for us next.
