Exclusive Review: JBJ95 Soars With "SPARK" In Latest Comeback

It is not common to see a duo K-Pop group in the industry but JBJ95 has been making it a thing since their debut last year after the end of activities for JBJ.

For those who recall, both members Kenta and SangGyun appeared on Mnet "Produce 101" Season 2. Although they did not make it into Wanna One, they ended up forming a project group, JBJ, with other participants who had appeared on their show.

The end of JBJ also signaled the start of the permanent group, JBJ95.

On Aug. 6, Kpopmap was invited to attend their exclusive showcase for their 3rd mini album "SPARK". It has been 4 months since their last comeback and many fans are glad to see that they have returned with a new album that consists a total of 5 tracks.

Their title track '불꽃처럼' or 'SPARK' is based on synth together with the rhythmic bass and guitar at the background. It describes the feeling of two people falling in love and the time spent together just like fireworks. After listening to it, it would allow the listeners to want to fly up the sky in the summer night. Fans are going to be really happy as it was revealed that SangGyun had participated in writing in the lyrics for 'SPARKS'.

Looking at how excited both idols are, the MC touched on the fact that the two of them are looking forward and ready for their comeback.

Adding on, Kenta mentioned that he usually does not have the habit of eating breakfast but today he had eaten a lot and is in good condition too.

True to their words, JBJ95 performed 'SPARK' with infectious smile on their faces, charming the reporters who were present at the showcase. They were also seen wearing matching colored outfits which gave off a summer vibe that suits them and the theme that they were going for.

Aside from their title track, the boys also did not forget to show off other sides of themselves by taking the stage with their B-track 'UNREAL'. Just like before, SangGyun had participated in writing the lyrics of this song that touches on the reality of two lovers.

Explaining more about the album, SangGyun shared that the set list for this album is based on the theme of a timeline. He further elaborated that the first track is recommended to be listened in the morning and the last track should be played before you sleep and so on.

Before the concept and title of 'SPARK' was finalised, SangGyun revealed that he actually had images of a couple playing on the beach with fireworks in his head. Seeing how everything he had imagined was made into a reality, he felt goosebumps!

Touching on the choreography of 'SPARK', Kenta said that he had some difficulties as the dance was changed in many occasions, making it one of the difficulties he had experienced during the preparation of the album.

He also cutely shared that the nickname of the point dance is called the 'shampoo dance'!

Seeing how JBJ95's concept appeared to be more of a fresh, soothing, and 'fall in love' style, one reporter asked if they had any plans to try out manly or sexier concept.

Both idols agreed that they have plans to try it out in the future but would like to focus on the concept which they have been doing all along. They wanted the audience and their fans to know what their music style is and hence, have been pursuing their own unique color.

Of course, they did not forget to share the goals for this album when asked. Kenta mischievously shared that if they receive number 1 for 'SPARK', he will eat watermelon in front of their fans on a music show. SangGyun then shared that he would love to hold a event with 95 of their fans and enjoy fireworks.

Hearing how extravagant SangGyun's plan was, the MC was startled and mentioned that it was going to cost him a lot for fireworks!

Jokes aside, SangGyu said that hoped through this album, more people would get to know them as well as their music.
