A stones throw from a venue that has hosted countless K-Pop acts, Dallas and Diadem were gearing up for a different kind of Korean musical act. Five women graced the stage and brought the house down in spectacular glory with intense expertise.
In August 2019, Rolling Star Entertainment took two rock bands, Rolling Girlz (Iree and Arem) and Rose Quartz (JaYoung, Choi HyunJung and YeongEun) and created what we know now as Rolling Quartz. They officially debuted on December 30th, 2020 with their single, “Blaze.” Since then, they have released 3 single albums, 2 EPs and a slew of covers and collaborations.
They performed their hits ‘Higher’, ‘Blaze’, ‘Holler’, ‘Fearless’, ‘Delight’, ‘Victory’, and did covers of Motley Crue’s ‘Kickstart Your Heart’, Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’, their mashup of BLACKPINK’s ‘Pink Venom’ and BTS’ ‘Mic Drop’ they originally did with AleXa and ended the show a cover of My Chemical Romance’s ‘Helena’.
I have to say, I’ve seen Rolling Quartz once before in a non-professional capacity. It was at a very small venue in the Deep Ellum district of Downtown Dallas. The capacity of that venue couldn’t have been more than 150 people. So when they announced this tour, I was excited to find out they were playing at Poor David’s Pub. While I do feel they deserve an even bigger venue, Poor David’s Pub is a very important institution for the Dallas rock and country scene and to see an amazing band like Rolling Quartz perform in this iconic venue is very meaningful to me as a Dallas native.
In one of my recent reviews, I mentioned how every K-Pop fan should experience seeing a K-Rock band live. Rolling Quartz is the reason why I feel this way. Not only do you see immense talent on the stage, it’s off the stage where the magic continues. There is a merging of three different fan groups; K-Pop fans, J-Rock fans, and even aging American metal fans. There is no toxicity, there is no tension, it’s all for the love of music. It feels like you’re in a room of 400 of your closest friends. Rolling Quartz brings everyone together for the love of rock.
Vibes aside, Rolling Quartz perform like a beast let out of a cage. They get on that stage, put everything they have out on it and leave, beaten and spent. I had a chance to see them after the show, and while they still had the energy to make sure their fans had a great time, you could tell the only thing keeping them going for the day was their love of Diadem.
I hope they can come back to Dallas a third time and play a much bigger venue. I ask you as a reader… no, I beg you if they are playing in a town near you, go see them. Even if you’ve never heard their music before, you will leave a changed person.
