Learn Korean easily with fun and iconic K-Pop memes. In this article, we're looking at a legendary meme from SEVENTEEN's Hoshi.
Ishani Sarkar, Kpopmap EditorThe best way to learn a language is when you're having fun with it. So, in this article, we are teaching you the Korean phrase "mari an dawe jana" through an iconic K-Pop meme, courtesy of the one and only, SEVENTEEN's Hoshi.
"Mari an dawe jana", written in Korean as "말이 안 돼 잖아" means "that doesn't make sense" or "it doesn't make sense", with a slight emphasis on disbelief or frustration.
Hoshi saying "mari an dwae jana" in "Going SEVENTEEN" EP.41 - "Don't Lie Ⅱ #2" has gone viral in the K-Pop fandom.
Hoshi said this out of disbelief when MinGyu claimed that he didn't know the rules of the game.
Out of many hilarious moments that Hoshi has given us on "Going SEVENTEEN", this meme definitely remains one of the most memorable.
You can use this phrase in casual and informal conversations among friends when you want to say that something doesn't make sense.
For instance:
그 식당에 대기 줄이 이렇게 길어? 말이 안 돼 잖아!
Geu sikdange daegi juri ireohge gireo? Mari an dwae jana!
Meaning: There's such a long line at that restaurant? It doesn't make sense!

Here are some male K-Pop idols who would make perfect mentors on a survival program.
Dyllan Mykel, Kpopmap EditorVarious groups are formed internally within their respective companies, however, there are many who come together through a K-Pop survival program. From temporary projects like I.O.I and Wanna One to permanent groups like fromis_9 and TREASURE, these idols put everything on the line and work tirelessly with the overall hope to debut. Their talents are able to shine through, convincing avid viewers to become fans and ultimately cast a vote for their favorite contestant.
Although the contestants of these survival shows are the main focus, one cannot forget the mentors who are there to help them. Regardless of their teaching style, they are there to aid these celebrity hopefuls to transform into a full-fledged artist able to stand on multiple stages. These mentors ensure that the contestants are ready to enter the sometimes harsh, yet rewarding K-Pop industry.
Among the countless survival programs that have aired throughout the years, they've brought on various professionals, as well as established idols to guide the contestants towards the finish line and finally debut.
Now, here are some male K-Pop idols that would make amazing mentors for a survival program.
Mark has evolved as an artist, becoming a K-Pop idol fans cannot help but love. He puts a lot of effort into his creative process in order to create a musical masterpiece that he and his fans can be proud of. Along with his experience of coming from abroad and outside of Korea, he's able to provide valuable tips on how to create the work ethic necessary to achieve one's dreams.
Rocky is often considered a performance king. The way he moves across the stage leaves netizens in constant awe and it seems only natural when they all start to cheer his name. He would be able to help contestants discover their own unique charms and develop a way to consistently bring them out while on stage. Rocky's very own experience as a contestant will allow him to bridge the gap between the idol hopefuls and serve as strength to them all.
Bang Chan is an incredibly talented individual, being able to stand on stage and put in work behind the scenes. While he might look fierce and charismatic during performances, the Stray Kids leader has constantly shown to possess a heart of gold. Bang Chan would be the kindhearted mentor who serves as a beacon of light, but also a well of much needed advice. His presence would be appreciated by both the contestants and avid fans of the show.
I.M is a talented artist able to proudly stand as a soloist or member of his group. Although his career has steadily seen an upward trajectory, he did not start off at the very top. Before even making his debut, I.M was a contestant on "NO.MERCY" along with the rest of his groupmates. His experience during this time serves as valuable insight and with his honest sincerity, he will do all that he can to ensure the contestants get the help that they need.
A majority of the time, Hoshi is a ball of sunshine that warms the hearts of CARAT worldwide. However, he has constantly transformed into a ferocious tiger on stage, able to woo audiences during every performance. He would make an amazing mentor, providing helpful hints and tips from his stage knowhow. This advice makes a valuable asset to the contestants' longevity in the scene, even if they do not make the final lineup.

Here are some of our favorite lyrics from Epik High's newest release, 'Screen Time' featuring SEVENTEEN's Hoshi!
Dyllan Mykel, Kpopmap EditorEpik High are a longstanding group known for their addictive tracks and meaningful lyricism. They might be a hip-hop group, but they're often shown an incredible amount of respect from the K-Pop idols that take the stage today. Many idol rappers mention Epik High as inspirational role models in their pursuit of music.
Now, Epik High are back with their latest single, 'Screen Time' featuring SEVENTEEN's Hoshi. 'Screen Time' brings a tidal wave of emotions from warm sincere warmth to soul crushing heartache. Their ability to pack so much into an almost 4 minute track speaks to Epik High's talent and experience within the music industry. And as always, Epik High's lyrics are one of the highlights, offering new perspectives and insight.
Here are some of our favorite lyrics from the incredible track.
'Screen Time' is a song that conveys yearning for a past lover. While there's hurt and regret, there's also signs of hope. Through this line, it shows signs of moving forward, in spit of the pain, and navigating life after the relationship. These lyrics are short, but come with such a grand impact that can be felt by all.
The entire lyrics read "No wonder I can't get any work done, both of my hands are occupied holding to us". The intricacy of this is astounding and hits various levels. The aftermath of a breakup can be crippling, causing many to remain in one place for an unforeseeable amount of time. These lyrics depict this state of grief, how we are often consumed by it, and rendered motionless, holding onto the past.
In spite of the utter grief and gripping sadness, there are moments of clarity after a breakup. These lyrics look at the difference in beliefs between two past lovers and the realization that these conflicting outlooks set them apart. The end goal of a relationship is to develop a sense of unity with similar goals in mind. Having a difference of opinion in happiness can be a deal breaker for some couples, forcing them to reevaluate priorities and how they approach each other. It's wonderfully introspective, bringing a lot of thought into a single line.
