H.O.T Tony Receiving Backlash Is Perfect Example Showing The Importance Of Phrasing
First generation K-Pop idol group H.O.T member Tony’s recent Instagram post has been drawing a lot of criticism from South Korean netizens at the moment.
While Tony did not necessarily say anything offensive directly, his phrasing probably wasn’t the best choice of words with the recent tragic Sokcho wildfire disaster.
The word ‘bul geum’ that translates to ‘Friday on fire’, which is a combination of ‘bul’ meaning fire and ‘geum’ referring to Friday (geum yo il) in the Korean language, is a popular word that many South Koreans use to describe a wild Friday night.
Netizens felt that it would have been common sense to refrain from talking about anything catching fire in a light-mannered way given that the nation just had to go through a natural disaster involving fire.
Fans have been saying that it wasn’t the time to be excited for Friday nights on fire.
What do you think about the phrasing?
