Just recently, IZ*ONE being introduced as a group that is produced by Yasushi Akimoto proved to be problematic for some South Korean netizens.
According to netizens, this was a problem for them because it made the group appear to be a group that Japan was responsible for.
Of course, well informed fans and netizens would know that the group is actually rooted in both countries. The first obvious reason is because the groups contain both South Korean and Japanese members.
And the second reason is because Yasushi Akimoto is in fact the producer of the group when they are active in Japan, whereas Han SungSoo is the producer of the group when they are active in South Korea.
The reason why South Korean netizens seem to be most discomforted is because IZ*ONE were not introduced to the public as a K-Pop group.
Now we also know that relations between South Korea and Japan obviously isn’t exactly in good terms. Which may explain why South Korean netizens are responding quite sensitively to the issue as well.
Thankfully, there have been many sensible South Korean netizens who have been scolding other South Korean netizens accusing Japan of downplaying the K-Pop part when introducing IZ*ONE. Some have even uploaded photos of concerts in Japan that clearly has signs saying “K-POP” in large letters.
