While she solidified her status as a girl group member, Apink's Kim NamJoo continues to grow and mesmerize as a solo artist.
Dyllan Mykel, Kpopmap EditorDespite it being a decade since their debut, Apink continues to remain ever present within the K-Pop industry. They've certainly solidified their legendary status with hits like 'NoNoNo' and 'Mr. Chu'. But they've also constantly grown, showcasing their evolution with tracks like '%%(Eung Eung)' and more recently 'D N D'.
The girl group have a distinct sound, known best for their refreshing, vitamin-like vocals. While they're most known for their group promotions, Apink is made up of individuals with incredible talent. Over the past week, Apink's Kim NamJoo has been reminding us of this fact with her first solo comeback.
Outside of Apink's innocent image, NamJoo as a soloist is more mature with an alluring sound that would make anyone keep their eyes locked on the idol. Of course she didn't start off like this, making constant improvements throughout her career to become the artist she is today.
Apink's debut song, 'I Don't Know' was a song filled with pure innocence, reminiscent of a bright, clear spring day. In addition to their refreshing image, being part of the maknae line added on to NamJoo's cute aura. But behind her sweet visuals were honey-like vocals that became the source of pure joy.
The few years that followed, NamJoo's focus was on group activities. This time proved pivotal in cementing Apink's status among their colleagues and ever-growing idol landscape. It wouldn't take too long for the girl group to really come into their own and prove their mettle, becoming idols that everyone looked forward to.
While immersed in group promotions, NamJoo was able to participate in a few other projects like 'A Year Ago' with fellow groupmate Jung EunJi and Jang HyunSeung, as well as 'Photograph' with BTOB's Yook SungJae. These showed small glimpses of NamJoo outside of Apink and her potential to spread her wings and fly on her own. However, as we now know, those solo endeavors would come much later.
Creating a firm foundation, NamJoo continued to polish her skills, whether it came to her already wonderful vocals, stunning dance lines, and all encompassing stage presence. She participated in collaborations with other artists and even formed a subunit with fellow member BoMi, called Apink BnN. Through all these endeavors, NamJoo continued to showcase her evident talent and knack for performing on stage.
Even when not standing underneath the spotlight on music stages, NamJoo stirred the hearts of Panda everywhere with her reinvigorating presence and bubbly personality. She became known as a true mood maker both within her group and among others.
Although she did a lot in order to develop an artist, in between music show visits and studio room recordings, she even opened up her own YouTube channel. Through this new venture, she greeted fans and viewers with joy-inducing mukbangs that filled both your stomach and your heart. NamJoo is definitely an allrounder, able to captivate on any stage.
Although she led a successful career as an Apink member, when it came time to make her solo debut, NamJoo realized she needed to present a totally different image. And she did just that through her solo debut with title track 'Bird'. In previous years, she was merely spreading her wings to get a feel of the wind, but through her solo debut, NamJoo was able to finally fly off into scary, yet exciting music industry all on her own. With her groupmates and fandom supporting her, she made an incredible transformation into the soloist we see today.
In light of her recent comeback, NamJoo shows she's not done growing as an artist. Through 'BAD' she comes forth more daring and bold than ever before. While she still introduces herself as Apink's NamJoo, there's a clear distinction between her two identities that make up one amazing whole.
Kim NamJoo continues to make headlines, flying higher than ever before. Despite being an established name within the K-Pop industry, she makes multiple strides to improve and become better than ever before.

Check out these songs idol producer SoYeon has worked on outside of (G)I-DLE!
Dyllan Mykel, Kpopmap EditorEven before (G)I-DLE's rise to fame, Jeon SoYeon was already active and well known in the entertainment industry. When she first came onto the K-Pop scene, many were blown away by her powerful rap lines and overflowing charisma shown on Mnet's "Produce 101" and "Unpretty Rapstar 3". She quickly showed that she was not content with simply performing on stage, but wanted to become deeply involved in a song's creative process.
Over 50 songs later, SoYeon has solidified herself as the talented idol producer behind (G)I-DLE's chart-topping hits. From title tracks to B-sides, SoYeon has made them all and has only gotten better with time. She is not only confined to making music for her group, but has worked on various tracks outside of (G)I-DLE. Whether it's in the form of writing, producing, arranging, or all of the above, SoYeon has proven to be a master at her craft and a welcome addition in any recording studio.
Here are some songs that SoYeon has worked on outside of (G)I-DLE.
Even with her group's debut on the nearing horizon, SoYeon was able to participate in writing this bop for project group JBJ. The song showcases the group's incredible vocals and impressive rap skills. 'Say My Name' has a wonderful pre-chorus build up and an addictive hook that gets your head bobbing in no time. It might be a b-side, but it certainly doesn't feel that way with its unbelievably good sound.
Who knew a two-lettered word could have such an impact? Apparently SoYeon did as she made this banger of a song. The idol producer had a hand in writing, arrangement, and composing the CLC title track. From the intro you can already feel yourself being drawn into the song's alluring melody, which shows no signs of letting go. CLC's 'No' is powerful, provocative, and a complete girl boss anthem from start to finish.
SoYeon not only features on this song but also received writing credits, along with MinHyuk. 'Hang Out' is an up-tempo dance track that starts off slow but quickly goes into overdrive. MinHyuk shows that he's the complete package of an artist in terms of vocals and rap. SoYeon's verse goes hard and is exactly what you'd expect out of the (G)I-DLE member. 'Hang Out' is the perfect party song and will surely get everyone rushing to the dance floor.
At the time, SoYeon was fairly new to the music industry as a member of (G)I-DLE. However, that didn't stop her skills from being recognized, earning her writing credits and the opportunity to collaborate with K-Pop veteran Key. 'I Wanna Be' is a groovy dance track, presented as a parting gift to fans prior to his military enlistment. The song makes you feel weightless, as if you're floating among the clouds. The beat is addictive, causing your feet to naturally move to its catchy rhythm.
SoYeon certainly pulled out all the stops as she participated in the writing, producing, and arrangement of 'Bird'. This song acted as NamJoo's solo debut track, showing a completely different side to the idol singer. NamJoo overflowed with a charisma that might go unseen as a member of Apink, bringing much praise from fans and non-fans alike. The song's musicality coupled with NamJoo's incredible vocals make it easy to hit the replay button over and over again.
Who eles but SoYeon could make a Shake Shack commercial seem so trendy and filled with swag! The idol rapper goes hard on the hip-hop driven beat, dropping mad bars that deserve nothing but respect for the idol producer. She's only credited for writing, but that's enough to make anyone crave for a burger, or two, from the renowned fast food joint.
The vocals might be the only thing that's sweet about this song, as it oozes with an intensity that can be felt on every listen. Not only does SoYeon feature on the musically satisfying track, but she also had a hand in writing and composing. With such an addictive hook and upbeat melody, it's hard not to have this song on repeat all day long. Just one listen will quell any cravings you had for great music. 'Dessert' would be the perfect addition to any playlist!
What's your favorite song out of this list? Let us know in the comments!
Note(January 20): This article has been corrected as it included a song (G)I-DLE's SoYeon had not previously worked on. We apologize to the rightful producers and our readers for causing any confusion made by our mistake.
