Finally, we have an amazing podcast show for our K-Pop fans! And the host? Well, it’s none other than a singer-songwriter and TV personality, Eric Nam! The podcast, K-Pop Daebak w/ Eric Nam is a show that spotlights K-Pop’s best new music of the week with commentary and many random ramblings.
Here are some of the moments that I personally wanted to share what was on the first episode of K-Pop Daebak w/ Eric Nam!
With its “finest, state of the art equipment and music” the first episode (April 18th, 2019) starts off with Brian’s (Eric’s brother) great intro jingle that you’re going to love.
The title of the episode is basically what Eric is going to talk about and for this episode, Eric shared his thoughts on MOMOLAND ’s ‘I’m So Hot’, TaeYeon 's solo track ‘사계 (Four Seasons)’, and BTS ' "Intro: Persona".
As MOMOLAND released the latest EP, ‘I’m So Hot’ back in March, Eric shared his past interactions with two of the members, JooE and HyeBin.
Both HyeBin and Eric Nam used to be in the same company called B2M Entertainment. He also added HyeBin’s endeavor to become a singer.
For JooE, they both were involved in a show called “삼청동 외할머니”(Samcheong-Dong Grandmother, KBS) and he mentioned how JooE is very bright, has incredible personality and is filled with cuteness!
TaeYeon also released a single called, ‘사계(Four Seasons)’ around the same week(Mar. 24, 2019) which is about a person who was left behind by a lover who she spent with for the past four seasons.
With a little bit of petit Korean lesson, Eric shares about how singers try to relate themselves to the song they are recording for better 전달(Jeondal: delivery). This was brought up as TaeYeon stated that when she heard the song for the first time, it was hard for her to relate to the song as the song handles heartbreak and love. However, soon after, she was able to engage as she thought about her music and career.
After an amazing jingle transition(I think I’m going to love this part for every episode and please do not fire Brian), it’s none other than BTS RM’s solo rap, ‘Persona’ and its comeback trailer.
Of course, the album itself has been released(Apr. 12) for some time now with record-breaking numbers but mind that this was before the release and only the teaser trailer was available.
Eric emphasizes on how high quality the comeback trailer is, better than most of the other artist’s video contents.
Eric’s take on his first encountered of the comeback trailer was 1. Amazing, 2. Jealous and 3. AMAZING.
He also goes deeper into BTS’s latest album, “MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA” as he explains how their album name, ‘Persona’ comes from the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung’s four major archetypes which include Self, Shadow, Anima, and Persona and said people speculate the next album might follow those steps (I learn more every day).
Eric recalled the time when he first met and interviewed BTS saying that “[t]hey were super energetic and super nice. Every time they come back they’ll be in another level. Now, they are literally on top of the world but still very humble and very aware of their music and their job as an artist.
There are a lot more that I haven’t covered in the show but that’s about it for the recap of the first episode. If you want to listen to the rest of the show, check the link below!
