8 K-Pop Songs With Unique Names And Their Meaning

K-Pop is already known for being quite unique. It's different from any other music industry may it be in terms of the MV, the group's concepts, or even the music itself. And because K-Pop is part of the Korean culture, it is not rare for international fans to come across words and expressions they're not familiar with. But it is also a great occasion and a way to learn about Korean culture in a very entertaining way!

But there are some groups that released songs with quite unique names that are not related to Korean culture too! And those song titles got confused not only international fans but even Korean fans as to their meaning. There are many song titles that are quite unique in the K-Pop world, some have very deep meanings and explanations, and others are just for entertainment purposes, but whatsoever, these song titles are mind-blowing! So let's take a look at some of the most unique song titles in the K-Pop industry!

        1. TFN (named T1419 at that time) - 'ASURABALBALTA'

As strange as the name can appear, it simply means 'abracadabra'. This title does seem like some kind of incantation, but it is as simple as being the Korean version of the commonly known 'abracadabra' expression used when playing magic tricks!

        2. ONEUS - 'BBUSYEO'

When you first saw this title, probably you thought to yourself 'there is no way this means anything!' well it does! 'BBUSYEO' is a Korean word to say 'Break it all'. That explains why in the MV, all members are breaking tons of objects!

        3. SunMi - 'Porapipam'

Once again, it is a transcription of the Korean title '보라빛 밤' which literally purple light night and is a reference to the sky turning purple during some phase of the sunset. It should now seem clearer as to why the main color of the MV is purple and there are a lot of shiny elements included as well!

        4. Red Velvet - 'Zimazalabim'

Another word that feels like an incantation, and once again, it is no other than a sort of 'abracadabra' or 'alakazam'! It is, again, another word you can use upon completing a magic trick. It looks like our K-Pop artists are also great magicians at times!

        5. VIXX - 'G.R.8.U'

Of course, it is easy to guess what the title means in this version, but the little secret of its writing lies in the Korean title! In Korean, this song is named '대.다.나.다.너' (Dae.Da.Na.Da.Neo), and it sounds just like the word '대단하다' (Daedanhada) which means being great and/or incredible! The reason they wrote it with an 8 in English is that in Korean the word was also written in a very peculiar way, it is written differently than the original word, but it sounds the same, just like 'G.R.8.U' sounds like 'great you'!

        6. SuperM - 'Jopping'

With this title, SuperM created a whole new word! Indeed, as said in the lyrics of the song, the word jopping is no other than the combination of 'jumping' and 'popping' (a dance technique) that gives birth to the main move of the chorus' dance! This was for sure an innovative title to go for for a debut song!

        7. ONEWE - '0&4'

If you thought the meaning of this song was exactly '0&4' you're not technically wrong, but the true meaning is deeper than that. In fact, in Korean, 0&4 is pronounced 'Gong Gwa Sa', using the Sino-Korean counting method. But outside of numbers 'Gong' (공) can mean 'a whole' or 'a group', and 'Sa' (사) means 'individual', 'part of a whole', and lastly 'Gwa'(과) means 'and', so the title actually means 'public and private matters', that sounds just like '0&4'!

        8. SEVENTEEN - 'Lilili Yabbay'

If all the previous songs had more or less deep meaning to their unique title, this one doesn't. No really, 'Lilili Yabbay' stands for nothing at all! During a Fansign, a fan asked one of the members what this title meant and JeongHan answered that it was the way they counted steps while dancing, saying 'li' 'li' 'li'. Who would've expected this?

All those titles may be unique, but some of them are quite funny, interesting, and instructive too. We hope to see more of those in the future as well.
