Kpopmap Charts: Top 9 Best Female Idol Songwriters

We’ve seen many male idols such as the likes of G-Dragon, Dean, JinYoung, Gray, and Zico who are not only idols but competent producer songwriters as well.

But what about female idols? Some people seem to forget that there are also amazing female idol songwriters that have influenced and shaped the K-Pop music scene just as much as their male counterparts. Here are our nine best picks.

IU

IU 2017, IU KPop

IU Official Facebook

We believe that IU is possibly the best female songwriter in K-Pop. She may write music mainly for herself, but that’s because the core of her artistry is defined by her songwriting. There is also clear evidence that she may potentially be the best when we consider the fact that she had the most #1 songs on Billboard Korea K-Pop Hot 100.

Miryo

Miryo Brown Eyed Girls, Miryo 2017

Herald Pop

The ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ probably has more songs written than any other female idol songwriters under her belt. She currently has a total of 88 copyrighted songs, even beating IU who has a total of 40. Needless to say, she is a veteran writer within the industry and her experience is something that we can’t help but respect.

BoA

BoA 2017

CAUDALIE CF

BoA’s music repertoire has quite a long history. She is also another veteran songwriter in the K-Pop music scene as well. During her peak, she managed to hold a record of having six consecutive #1 albums in Japan. She is also in some ways a pioneer when it comes to debuting overseas. During her golden years, it was actually quite difficult in comparison to now for K-Pop artists to gain recognition overseas. Although it wasn’t a major success, her U.S debut contributed to a wider road and more chance for K-Pop artists to have relevance overseas.

LE

EXID LE 2017

Dispatch

The EXID member has a songwriting catalog that actually comes directly second after Miryo. With 51 copyrighted songs, she has worked with Verbal JintHyunA, K.Will, and that’s just a small fraction of the list. She was the lyrical brains behind Troublemaker’s ‘Troublemaker’ and ‘Now’. She has also co-wrote Jewelry‘s ‘Look at Me’, Secret‘s ‘Talk That’, HyunA‘s ‘French Kiss’ and Boy’s Republic‘s ‘Round’.

MoonByul

mamamoo 2017, moonbyul 2017

‘Yes I Am’ MV

Mamamoo‘s sweetheart Moonbyul isn’t just your typical idol who only performs and awes fans with a radiant smile. She has 25 copyrighted records she has co-written in her catalog and has worked with Kye BumZu. Her lyrical talent can be heard on the song ‘Secret Love’.

Kim Boa

Kim Boa 2017, Boa Spica 2017

BNT News

Another notable idol songwriter to the list is Kim Boa of SPICA. She has co-written fellow girl idol group KARA‘s song ‘Step’ and the majority of SPICA’s songs as well. Her talent enabled her to work with artists such as Eric Nam, After School, and Rainbow

Wonder Girls

Star 1

Park JinYoung should be proud. These girls are not only mesmerizingly beautiful but more importantly, they really possess talent. Their ‘Reboot’ album, was entirely by themselves. Putting that into consideration, it really breaks the stereotype of pop stars not writing their own music.

CL

CL 2017

CL Official Instagram

The iconic member of 2NE1 has made many contributions to her group’s songs. She has shown her lyrical talents by co-writing the group’s songs ‘Crush’, ‘If I Were You’, ‘MTBD’, ‘Scream’, and ‘Come Back Home’.

HyoLyn

HyoRin 2017, SISTAR HyoRin 2017

Aju Business Daily

There is a stark contrast between the music Hyolyn enjoys writing and the ones that she performed during her time in the girl group SISTAR. While the girl group’s music is mainly uptempo dance music, she has confessed that she prefers writing more downtempo and experimental music. She has co written SISTAR’s ‘Crying’, ‘Sunshine’, and ‘Say I Love U’. She even worked with Far East Movement on their song ‘Umbrella’. It’s unfortunate however that she wasn’t able to receive proper support from Starship Entertainment. We really hope she continues to write songs and bless our ears with her talent.

Kpopmap Charts: 10 Idols That Are Good at Overwatch

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, you probably know very well about ‘Overwatch’, Blizzard Entertainment’s most recent hit PC game.

Loved by fans and gamers all over the world, it’s no surprise that even our beloved idols would play as well. While it would be difficult to determine for sure which idol would be the best player, we’ve compiled a list of idols whom we think would be quite competent at playing the game in order.

#1 JungKook (BTS)

Star Daily News / Overwatch Official Facebook

JungKook is ranked as #1 on Kpopmap’s gaming charts because we believe his flawless appearance also reflects his flawless gaming skills. Well, maybe that’s just wishful thinking, but regardless, he is known to be the best gamer within BTS and we have seen through social media that he is above average in almost every game that he plays, whether it’s through PC, console, or mobile phone.

#2 MinHyuk (MONSTA X)

Twitter / Kevin Raganit Instagram

If you love Overwatch so much you would even post a video of you playing the game, you must to some extent be competent in the game. Videos of MinHyuk playing can be found online with members of VIXX as well. The way his eyes are lazily focused with relaxation on the monitor screen makes us think that because he is so good, he doesn’t even have to try.

#3 BaekHyun (EXO)

M Countdown / Overwatch Official Facebook

Rumors have it that BaekHyun’s Overwatch rank is somewhere in the ranks of master tier.

#4 HongBin (VIXX)

News One / Overwatch Official Facebook

Hongbin of VIXX has surprised fellow idols Gongchan (B1A4), and MinHyuk(Monsta X), with his Hanzo skills. The only reason he isn’t at the very top is that we all know Hanzo is OP and hated by Overwatch players.

#5 Hyuk (VIXX

VIXX Official Facebook / Overwatch Official Facebook

Hyuk has been seen playing overwatch with Hongbin and MinHyuk as well. His skills as a competent dealer in the game were quite apparent with Pharah.

#6 Mino (WINNER)

LOFFICIEL / Overwatch Official Facebook

His specialties are probably not limited to just rapping and looking great. Mino himself actually looks like a tanky character and we believe that his D.Va would be a tank that can make the Overwatch team last long while fulfilling objectives.

#7 V (BTS

Dispatch / Overwatch Official Facebook

V probably has an extremely busy schedule, so we don’t think he’d be the best at the game, but that’s not to say he would be bad either.

#8 Jennie (BLACKPINK)

Sports Chosun / Overwatch Official Facebook

The thought of Jennie playing Overwatch seems cute and also very realistic at the same time. She even somewhat has a hot gamer girl vibe as well.

#9 JiSoo (BLACKPINK)

‘Whistle MV’ / Overwatch Official Facebook

JiSoo and Jennie are known to be the best Overwatch players in BLACKPINK. Lisa and ChaeYoung sometimes tries to play with them but are usually left out because they lack skill. Symmetra is usually a difficult character to play with, which is why we find it hard to believe that a super-star idol with a busy schedule could manage to play well with it.

#10 HyeJeong (AOA)

Top Star News / Overwatch Official Facebook

While it’s really cool to know that HyeJeong plays Overwatch, Genji players are usually very good or very bad.

Anyone with even a passing interest in Korea’s 90s pop culture could relate to the daily struggles of H.O.T fangirl, Sung SiWon. Constantly having to defend her love for her oppas from the naysayers in her life, EunJi played a fan as obsessed with Tony Ahn as we are obsessed with her!

As one of the HBIC at the ultra-plush Jeguk High School, Krystal was definitely channeling some Blair Waldorf vibes through the role of Lee BoNa, the daughter of a music entertainment CEO. With her glamorous looks and unaffected delivery, she may just be the ice princess of our K-Drama dreams!

7. Sulli – JaeHee in “To The Beautiful You”

SBS

By the time “To The Beautiful You” had hit television, it was safe to say the girl-disguised-as-guy motif was pretty played out in the realm of Korean dramas. However, Sulli breathed new life into the genre through the girlcrush-worthy role of Goo JaeHee.

8. T-ARA’s EunJung – Becky in “Dream High”

KBS

As good-girl-gone-bad Yoon Becky, T-ARA’s EunJung put on a stellar performance in the 2011 musical drama “Dream High.” Sure, we loved a few different roles in that drama, but as one of the main villains, she played a character we truly loved to hate. (Just keep her away from flower pots, okay?)

9. UEE – HyeSoo in “Marriage Contract”

MBC

While other acting idols tend to play lighter roles like high school students or part-time workers, UEE put on a moving performance as young widowed, HyeSoo, who was dealing with raising her daughter despite being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Talk about a hard role to tackle!

10. gugudan’s Kim SeJeong – EunHo in “School 2017”

school 2017 sejeong, gugudan drama, sejeong drama, acting idols 2017

KBS2

In the recently wrapped drama “School 2017,” gugudan’s SeJeong won the heart of audiences through the role of EunHo. A perfect heroine, the high school student maintains her upbeat, optimistic demeanor while working to solve the case behind the mysterious Student X.
