They're strong, fierce and never take anything from anyone. Here's some important lessons we learned from K-Pop women!
Kianna, Staff WriterIf you're a girl group fanatic, this article is for you! When you think of a strong, confident woman in K-Pop, who comes to mind? Most likely a lot of idols and soloists! K-Pop women talk about topics of confidence, self-love, and how powerful they have been ever since the genre began. It is an integral part of bringing up these topics due to the toxic views some people hold on women.
Women in K-Pop share many messages with listeners. They talk about their struggles, triumphs, and successes that make them the strong women they are today. We think it is important for people to know and learn about these lessons. Even if you are not a woman, these idols and singers share very important messages. Here are some important lessons that K-Pop women have taught us!
A constant message that many women in K-Pop love to talk about is how you shouldn't let the hate get you down! These women have taught us to always love ourselves and not let what haters say get to us. Many women in the idol industry are subject to a massive amount of hate from this workforce and from many hateful fans. K-Pop women persevere through this hate and love to encourage their fans to do the same as well. MAMAMOO'S HwaSa is a perfect example as many of her songs detail how she has dealt with haters in her music career and how they don't even matter. Her most recent comeback with the single 'I Love My Body' talks about how no matter what people say about her, she loves herself and doesn't really care what you think! Another example comes from the group miss A with their powerful and fiery song 'Bad Girl Good Girl'. Rather than a cute or innocent debut, the girls debuted with a title track that told people to watch their back if they decide to hate because they really don't know the true them.
We could never forget Red Velvet's iconic intro line from 'Happiness' and neither should you because it is important for the next lesson! K-Pop women never gave up on their dreams because if they did, we wouldn't even be able to write this article. Many of them encourage others to follow their dreams and never give up, no matter what obstacles lay ahead. TWICE is another perfect example of chasing their dreams. Their b-side song 'Girls Like Us' talks about their dreams and the starting point of their career as TWICE. They encourage others to keep going no matter the tears shed and the hardships that await because happiness is around the corner.
Many K-Pop women pride themselves on always being true to themselves and showing off their authentic personalities. Groups and soloists have put these themes into their songs to empower women and tell them that it's okay to be who they are. Take STAYC for example! Their song 'Stereotype' talks about being their own unique self, being confident in who they are, and embracing themselves and the vulnerabilities that they have. The song title 'Stereotype' even signifies how you shouldn't follow the labels or prejudices others place on you. Another great example is AKMU Lee SuHyun's song 'ALIEN'. The song tells the story of a mother who encourages her daughter by saying she is an alien from a faraway galaxy, aiming to help her be her best and authentic self. BIBI's song 'Bibi's Vengeance' showed different aspects of this lesson in her music video. At first, she is innocent and pure but as it progresses she shows off her true self, a fearless, independent woman. K-Pop women love to tell many stories about embracing who you truly are.
If you've been in the K-Pop scene for years now, you probably remember 2NE1's iconic song 'I Am The Best'. This perfectly sums up the next lesson we've learned from K-Pop women. Even in this song, the members sing about how they are confident and emphasize self-importance and assurance. K-Pop women always remind us that we are the most important thing in this world so it's important that you remember this! BLACKPINK's Jennie talks about how she is the most important thing after experiencing a breakup in her debut single 'SOLO'. The message behind these songs are very impactful and get listeners thinking about how they are the most important people in their life. K-Pop women prioritize themselves because their feelings and self-love are what matter the most.

Check out these reenergizing vocal performances from AKMU's SuHyun!
Dyllan Mykel, Kpopmap EditorEver since winning "Kpop Star 2", AKMU have become bona fide musicians. The duo are often lauded for their vocal prowess, incredible artistry, and innovative creativity. On top of their talents, their personalities are completely bright and genuine, causing many to fall in love with them outside of their music skills.
While the sibling duo shine exceptionally bright when together, they are able to stand in the spotlight all on their own. While her brother has often received praised for his songwriting capabilities, AKMU's SuHyun is talented in her own right, diving into various fields of the entertainment field. She successfully managed her own YouTube channel, appeared on healing variety shows, and even was one of the hosts for MZ reality show, "Nineteen to Twenty".
While she has a mountain of accolades and experience outside of singing, you cannot talk about the SuHyun without mentioning her amazing vocals.
Here's just a few examples of AKMU SuHyun's soothing vocals that spreads warmth all throughout your body.
This cover remains true to the song title, leaving viewers absolutely 'Speechless'. SuHyun's vocals bring you on a rollercoaster ride of emotion. Despite the twists and turns, you find it to be a smooth ride, steadily falling for the singer's endless charms. Don't be surprised if you find your jaw wide open by the end of the song.
'City of Stars' is an iconic song that mesmerized millions after the release of "La La Land". SuHyun's duet with Lee DongWook is absolutely magical, transporting you to a kingdom above the clouds. Hearing their harmonious voices, with a laugh slipped in between, makes you believe that a 'City of Stars' is an actual place you're able to visit.
'Perhaps' is an uplifting song that warms your soul in more ways than one. Combine this with SuHyun's vocals and a video set in the backdrop of a rainy countryside, then you get feelings of pure bliss. As you listen to SuHyun's lovely vocals you'll feel completely healed from any burdens that were weighing on your shoulders.
Recently, AKMU became the hosts for the next installment of KBS' "The Seasons", giving birth to "The Seasons: Long Day, Long Night With AKMU". During their first episode, SuHyun sang a short cover of Lee Juck's 'Laundry'. Regardless of the length, the singer absolutely killed it, mesmerizing the entire audience in attendance.
Previously in 2021, SuHyun was part of JTBC's healing music program "Sea Of Hope". Among the various songs she performed while on the show, the singer showed a particularly touching rendition of Bread's 'If'. Combined with the sound of acoustic instruments, the moment seems ethereal, as if it were a fairytale story come to life.
