Not all idols made their first screen debut on a music stage, they started off on screen as child actors.
We usually aren’t introduced to K-Pop idols until they make their official debut on stage, but theses 5 musicians were first seen on television through dramas and movies. Before they made their debut as idols, they already had a foot in the door of the entertainment industry as actors – whether small children or teen.

1. B1A4’s JinYoung
Before he decided to become an idol, JinYoung did everything he can to become a celebrity. He started off as an extra on set, then continued with smaller roles until he debuted as a member of B1A4 in 2011. Even after his debut, JinYoung’s been growing as an actor – his most renown role was in “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds”.
2. FT Island’s HongGi
HongGi is probably the K-Pop idol with the most extensive pre-debut filmography. HongGi featured in 2002’s children drama on KBS 2TV. Since then, he debuted in 2007 as the lead singer of FT Island, and continued to star in major dramas, such as “You Are Beautiful” after his debut.
3. CNBlue’s Jung YongHwa
Jung YongHwa made his debut as an actor before joining CNBlue as an artist. He debuted as a co-star to his labelmate, HongGi, in “You Are Beautiful”. The drama aired in 2009, and YongHwa debuted as the main vocalist of CNBlue in 2010.
4. Shinhwa’s Kim DongWan
Kim DongWan was an actor before debuting as a member of Shinhwa in 1998. In 1997, he featured on the drama called “Mountain”. To this day, Kim DongWan juggles being a K-Pop idol and an actor in dramas and movies.
5. SF9’s ChaNi
ChaNi debuted in 2011 in a MBC drama when he just a young kid. He continued to act, even appearing in the hit drama “Signal”, before debuting as a member of SF9 in 2016.
