While this has been the first time in ten years that South Korea was included among the countries where MAMA would be hosted, netizens are currently talking about how low quality it is.
It seems that Mnet has attempted to please the K-Pop fans in South Korea but didn't exactly put much thought into how things might look from their perspective.
Fans have been complaining on and off about the lineup for the most part.
Below are some of the comments from netizens.
"Why do they insist on hosting this dumb awards ceremony in three different countries?"
"Who on earth were those Japanese idol girl group? Is this a school talent show? It was embarrassing for me to watch their performance. And they call this a global awards ceremony?"
"Music Bank and M Countdown does a much better job every time than this low quality event."
"I wish they'd stop pretending that they are hosting a global awards ceremony. Come back when you guys are able to get stars like Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, or Taylor Swift, then we might start believing it's a global event."
What did you think of the MAMA 2018 kick-off in South Korea? Was seeing only rookies and lesser known idol groups a let-down?
