Born in Gwangju, on February 18th 1994, J-Hope is the third oldest in BTS. He holds the main dancer and rapper position in the group together with RM and Suga. They are also known as the ‘rap-line’ just like how their fans call them. In addition to that, he is the only son in his family with an elder sister and pet dog, Mickey.
Before being accepted into Big Hit Entertainment as a trainee, he actually auditioned for JYP Entertainment. Fans find it lucky that his current agency’s CEO, Bang SiHyuk, had spotted him with eagle eyes. If not for that, we are not exactly sure how BTS will be without him.
J-Hope is exceptionally talented in dancing and even mentioned that if he were not an idol. he would have most probably pursue a career as a dancer. His love for dancing can be seen through several of his V-Live videos. He called his dancing sessions ‘Hope On the Street’ where he shows his fans the way he practises dancing. He also considered it as another platform of showing the ‘dance’ side of him.
When he was still living in Gwangju, he actively attended dance lessons in Joy Dance Academy where B.A.P’s Zelo used to enroll in too. It was during then when they became close with each other even until now. They were spotted having interactions during Idol Sports Athletics Championship (ISAC) and outside with other friends.
When BTS released their second full length album, WINGS, in 2016, J-Hope’s exceptional dancing skills blew the minds of not just their fans but even other K-Pop idols. During an interview, he mentioned how hard he practised the choreography just because he did not want to disappoint his fans supporting him. Talk about dedication and hard work.
Apart from his professional and talented side, J-Hope is also known for his funky personality. Every time BTS gains a million followers on their Twitter account, he would not hesitate to celebrate and upload an edited picture of himself. Fans found it amusing since he had created his own hashtag, ‘Hope’s Million Series’. As such, whenever they almost gain another million followers, fans would wonder what kind of edit he would upload next.

In contrast to his image, other members of BTS had talked about how J-Hope tends to mask himself on stage when the camera is rolling. Due to the positive impressions people had of him, he revealed how difficult it was to show the side of him when he is feeling down and exhausted. As such, he mentioned how he feels that he has to wear a mask.
Through the such incidents, he had created his own BT21 character in collaboration with LINE called ‘Mang’ which can be seen as his avatar. It is a horse which wears a mask and loves dancing like how he does. He also describes how timid Mang is just like the way he is.

However, J-Hope has been trying his best to overcome such issues by focusing on the things which he can and loves doing. That is his passion for music! He named his studio ‘Hope World’ because he believes it is in his studio where he makes music that gives hope and happiness to people.
Recently, he had also released his mixtape, ‘Hope World’, after more than a year of hard work. His title track ‘Daydream’ explores how he acknowledges the fact that his reality is similar to day dreams but will continue to dream for a better life.
Regardless of how this is only a mixtape, ‘Hope World’ has shown surprising and incredible results by taking the 38th spot on Billboard Top 200 after two weeks of release! It is the highest achievement for a solo Korean singer in history!
Ever since last year when BTS took home the ‘Top Social Artist Award 2017’ in Billboard Music Awards, they have been receiving more spotlight from the Western music industry. Invitation to perform at American Music Awards, exclusive interview with Vogue in Los Angeles and winning the ‘Best Boy Band Award’ in iHearts Radio Music Award 2018, there could only be better things in the future for these boys.

Before signing off, always remember that whenever you are feeling down, just think J-Hope’s catch phrase. Like how he always introduces himself, ‘I’m your hope, you’re my hope, I’m J-Hope’. Together, there will be hope for a better future.
