NCT U Mark v. GOT7 Mark; NCT U TaeIl v. BLOCK B TaeIl
What came first? The Mark or the Mark? The TaeIl or the TaeIl?
Are we seeing double? Nope! They’re just two sets of talented K-Pop baes who happen to have the same name. It’s usually uncommon for celebrities to use the same name as other popular artists; however, NCT U has defied the conventional unspoken rule and debuted with two members with the same name of already active K-Pop boys.
Previously, various celebrities who have the same birth name as other active celebrities have revealed that they changed their names before debuting. Reasons varied from not wanting to be compared to the other stars or simply wanting to respect the name of the celebrities as their own brand. For example, recently rising actor, Kang HaNeul‘s birth name is Kim HaNeul. But he had changed his last name from Kim to Kang in order to not be confused with the top star actress, Kim HaNeul.
SM’s new K-Pop boy group, NCT U debuted recently with two members who’s names stick out more than the rest: Mark and TaeIl. Mark, the maknae of NCT U, has the same name as GOT7’s Mark; and TaeIl, the vocals of NCT U, has the same name as BLOCK B’s TaeIl! The spelling in both Korean and English are the same and all four boys don’t attach their last names.
