Netizen Suggests Suspicious Motives Behind IU’s Sokcho Wildfire Donations
After South Korea was hit with a massive natural disaster recently, many celebrities have been stepping up to help the victims of the Sokcho wildfire.
Among the generous celebrities, singer-songwriter IU was one of them, as she donated approximately $90,000 through ChildFund Korea.
However, one netizen has been suggesting that there may be suspicious motives behind IU’s donation. The netizen stated:
“The part of South Korea that the Sokcho wildfire damaged was in a secluded and remote area, and there were no schools in the area affected by the wildfire. The locals of the area consisted only of the elderly living in the country side.”
Other netizens who agreed with the original poster stated that it was strange that IU made a donation through ChildFund Korea when other celebrities made donations to organizations that are directly active in aiding the victims of the wildfire.
Inevitably, the original poster received many words of criticism from IU fans.
“This is what retarded means. lol”
“You want to get sued? You’re out of your mind you dog. You didn’t donate, IU did.”
“This guy probably just loves getting the attention like this, and probably wrote what was written for this reason.”
ChildFund Korea also responded by saying that some of the families in the area affected by the wildfire were supported by the organization, explaining the reason why IU had donated to their organization. In addition, it has also been revealed by ChildFund Korea that IU is actually a sponsor of the organization as well.
