Netizens File Government Petition For Investigation Involving IU’s Alleged Shady Real Estate Dealings
South Korean netizens are currently demanding that the government investigate into all the people who benefitted from real estate investments amidst the construction of the nation’s GTX, a train express network that aims to link the suburb areas of the northern and southern parts of the Gyeonggi Province, allowing shorter travel times for people commuting to Seoul.
While nothing has been confirmed, according to Naver news, rumors have it that IU obtained inside information prior to the construction of the GTX and purchased land and buildings in the area for $4 million. The current price for the land is reported to be $6.2 million, meaning she saw a profit of $2.15 million. Other people who are rumored to have benefitted from this alleged insider information include chairmen of various different companies and CEO’s.
So far, IU’s agency responded to the situation by stating that the singer-songwriter purchased the land and building for personal use including studio space and providing an office for her mother’s business.
The petition has so far gained 22,955 signatures, and continues to accumulate more.
