Currently in many Korea universities, the students are enjoying their school festival in the month of May. Most of the time, student council of each universities would invite artists to perform during their school festival.
However, it looks like the student council of Myungji University received backlash from their own student body after seeing some had put up a banner, demanding the removal of iKON from the lineup.
The reason for their demand was due to the fact that iKON is from YG Entertainment. Because of the ‘Burning Sun’ scandal, many have been trying to avoid the association with YG Entertainment.
The students claimed that they do not want their tuition fee to go into the pockets of YG Entertainment’s CEO Yang HyunSuk and asked the student council to remove iKON from the lineup.
The issue had since then spread like wild fire and received attention from netizens as well.
There seemed to be mostly reactions that support the students’ demand and a handful that mentioned that it was considered rude to have only ‘acted’ this way one day before the actual performance. It was noted that iKON was scheduled to perform in Myungji University on May 15 and the banner was only placed up on May 14.
Some commented that any association with YG Entertainment is considered as a crime and others pointed out that the students from student council are ‘dumb’ to have invited them to the school festival.
Continuing, some netizens also mentioned that the students should have protested the moment the lineup was released and could not understand why the banner was only placed up a day before. Adding on, some felt that the actions are considered rude to the artists who were already notified of their schedule.
