In 2016, PENTAGONdebuted under CUBE Entertainment and this year, it is their 5th year as a group. Many K-Pop fans would also know that PENTAGON's fandom name is none other than Universe. They have been using the name Universe since 2017.
However, with the recent launching of fan community mobile app, UNIVERSE, not many are happy with how the name had overlapped with PENTAGON's fandom.

UNIVERSE is a newly launched mobile app which allows K-Pop groups and their fans to communicate with each another. The app is available starting from Jan. 28 and they will also be holding a free online concert "UNIVERSE UNI-KON" on Feb. 14.
On Jan. 27, a hashtag "#유니버스는_펜타곤꺼야" which translates to "Universe is PENTAGON's" was trending on Twitter, earning the attention of many K-Pop fans.
Aside from how the names overlapped, another issue that is raised among many Universe is the fact that if there is an issue with the app, users will be posting negative comments online.
This could in turn lead to confusion and it would seemed as if PENTAGON's fandom is being criticized. Many are also pointing out that it would tarnish the name of PENTAGON's fandom too.
Attempting to resolve the issue, many Universe have also been sending emails to the mobile app company, hoping that they would look into this problem ever since they had announced the pre-registration of the app.
However, the mobile app company had only replied to fans' emails before the official launch of the app and here is that they had replied.
According to their customer service center, the reason why they had decided to go with the name 'UNIVERSE' is because of their motto in bringing fans of K-Pop together into the same place.
While it might be too late to change the name of the app as many promotions and events had already rolled out, there were also many K-Pop fans of other fandoms who found the situation regretful.
Some were saying that the mobile app company could have done a better research before deciding on the name and others also shared that they just want to protect PENTAGON's fandom name.
For many K-Pop fans, fandom name is a sensitive issue as it gives them their own unique identity and the special connection they have as a group.
