The first episode of "THE IDOLM@STER.KR" aired today, and we're excited for the brand new beginning of a dream come true!
If you've been living under a rock, you may haven't heard the news about "The THE IDOLM@STER.KR". The new drama is a spin off of the famous game in Japan where the users create and grow their own idol group. Now, the girls have come to life in an all new drama series that captures the ups and downs of an idol life from trainee to stardom. Produced by IMX, the girls have survived a series of challenges to be chosen for the Real Girl Project - the 11 members who will be featured on the debut drama.
The first episode aired just last Friday, and we're bringing you up to date with all the gossip and happenings from the first episode!
[Warning: Spoiler Alert! Don't continue reading if you haven't seen it yet.]
Let's get you caught up. So, this girl named SuAh - the leader of mega-popular Red Queen - basically dies by driving straight into an oncoming truck (btw, she has an older twin sister who runs track). On the first anniversary of her death, the group reveals a new member to replace her - Choi NaKyung. But see, NaKyung's got beef with the Pure Entertainment trainees. They've been training to debut, but sneaky NaKyung was like, "Peace out", and jumped ship to debut as Red Queen. So the trainee girls, rightfully furious as they are, goes to confront her. But NaKyung pulls a b**** move and turns the Red Queen members on the trainees. They fight and the trainee girls are humiliated as their leader (YoungJoo) trips over SuJi (the dead girl's twin).
Moving forward! The trainees are already like "This day sucks", but it turns out that their CEO bailed after filing bankruptcy. But right on cue, the weird 'Cat Man' they met on the bus turns up and says "I'll help you debut!" Oookay, and so the girls are like "Yay!" and only YoungJoo is suspicious... It turns out that the 'Cat Man' knows the Red Queen's ex-producer, Kang ShiHyuk (who retired after the rumors circulating about SuAh and him after her death). The 'Cat Man' is like "Help me fulfill their dreams", and KSH is like "ehh..."
And that's about it for the pilot episode!
Just before the ending, KSH visits SuAh's burial site as he remorse over the tragic memory. He turns around and BAM! It's SuAh standing before him!
No, it's SuAh's twin sister SuJi. They both look at each other with the most surprising faces as the credits begin to roll! We're going to have to see how this one plays out on Episode 2~
We're introduced to the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the characters...
Red Queen: They have 4 members. SuAh used to be the leader before she died, and NaKyung joins the group and is well accepted by the fans. NaKyung lied that she was bullied by the Pure Ent trainees during the 2 years that they trained together, and the Red Queen members step up to protect their new baby.
Pure Ent Trainees: We're introduced to the five girls - Yukika, SoRi, Jane, YoungJoo and TaeRi. Yukika is the dorky, adorable one; SoRi is the responsible and soft unnie; Jane is the tomboy maknae; TaeRi is the soft hearted one. Nothing really fundamental is said about the girls, but we'll learn more soon I'm sure.
The Cat Man: An unnamed man who seems a little crazy with his BFF-cat, Mari. He apparently has a past that he wants to atone as he tells KSH that he wants to help the girls achieve their lost dreams.
Kang ShiHyuk: (aka. KSH) He's a genius producer who shot the Red Queen to stardom, but he retired without a word when rumors about SuAh and him arose after her death. Apparently he has a very distinct personality.
YoungJoo: The character that we were most introduced to was YoungJoo. She's been dreaming about becoming an idol since she was young, and was bullied for her dream. She's an ice princess that has only her dream in mind - I mean, she literally missed her father's death because she was busy practicing. She's the most suspicious of the Cat Man (and rightfully so), and seems to not have opened up to any of the girls. She also has a mysterious song-writing sister who seems to play a major part.
What I liked about the drama was that it was very subtle in the PPL, and that's exactly how I like it. It's a big turn off when marketing is shoved in your face during a drama - it takes away from the story and just looks desperate! But this drama introduced 3 different kinds of PPL, but it was so quick and ninja that I had to rewind to see what it was!
Literally so many questions were left on my brain after the first episode. How were the Red Queen members able to intimidate the trainees so easily in front of their fans? Why did SuJi take up a part-time job at a showcase celebration for her twin sister's replacement? And it was literally on the anniversary that SuAh died! Why?! Lastly, YoungJoo and her wish balloons were definitely the cause of global warming today. tsktsk.
All jokes aside, we can't wait to find out how the
Pure 825 Ent trainees will grow over time. What's the hidden story behind SuAh's death? Why does KSH owe the Cat Man a favor? Why is the Cat Man helping the girls?
