Music Critic’s Harsh Review Of TWICE’s ‘Fancy’
JYP Entertainment girl group TWICE, recently released their 2019 comeback single ‘Fancy’, but has been receiving a lot of mixed reviews and reception from both fans and music critics alike.
And in some cases, the single has been blatantly criticized as being sloppily put together and low in quality by some people.
In one particular example, a South Korean music critic almost humiliates JYP Entertainment’s competence as a music entertainment production company.
But strangely enough, it seems that a lot of South Korean fans and netizens actually agree with the reviews that say ‘Fancy’ was a flop.
‘Fancy’ received two stars from this one critic below.
” ‘Fancy’ is a byproduct and result of an imitation and pretending. The only thing new about it is the way they are laughing and the introduction, as you get further in to the chorus, there’s nothing different. Sweet vocal lines over a simple , and a chorus that has bright characteristics while yelling the song title repeatedly, are all the things we’ve seen TWICE always do. ‘Fancy’ just has lower quality sound design and awkward transitions, making it chaotic. It’s attempting to aim for evolution but is also evident that JYP stayed in their safety zone by sticking with familiarity to lower the risk of being too avant-garde.
There’s also no improvement in the song’s form of expression. It’s already been five years since the group debuted, but watching them now is no different from their rookie days, and are still lacking. What remains consistent is the unclear vocals that dominate the song, and NaYeon and JiHyo taking turns singing singing in unbearable voices tires the listener. This is the result of TWICE having worked tirelessly for five years consecutively without a break.”
Below are how netizens of a popular online K-Pop community has been responding.
“Putting the quality of music aside, comments about the group’s concept and skills are absolutely correct.”
“This isn’t criticizing, this is the truth..”
“Facts. Do these girls even practice?”
“Honestly, he’s right.”
“I can’t agree more. Everything I wanted to say is written here.”
“Well the song sucks anyway.”
