K-Pop is illegal in Jamaica? For real?

Recently, articles making it seem that Jamaica has made the music genre illegal has been circulating on various online communities in South Korea.

A content based website by the name of 8Shit, was the center of attention lately involving this subject matter. There were even some parts that had bizarre information such as the one below. It all came from an article titled ‘Jamaica Becomes The First Country To Make K-Pop Illegal’.

“More and more teenage girls started following K-pop bands in Jamaica. They’re obsessed with them and they’re not doing homework, working or doing anything else. Our boys are following K-pop too, and they’re turning gay. This needs to be stopped at all costs.”

Of course, none of this is true.

But that didn’t stop some people from falling for it.

In fact, it caused so much chaos on the internet that the spokesperson for the prime minister of Jamaica had to intervene on the matter and state that this was false information.
