BTS have been keeping their fans full this year with solo performances and projects. From 'Hobipalooza' to Jin’s astronomical single, BTS continue to show off their individual charms for this next chapter of the group. It came as no surprise that another project is scheduled and it is from the leader himself, RM! RM is an award-winning producer and lyrical genius who has everyone excited about his new studio album "Indigo". "Indigo" is set to release December 2 with some features and a new sound showcasing the end of his 20s.

RM hasn’t released any solo albums since his 2018 mixtape "Mono" so the anticipation is at an all-time high. However, do you remember some of his notable pieces from the past? RM has been in the solo scene ever since his 2015 debut mixtape "Rap Monster". Even before BTS, he was Runch Randa releasing Hip Hop songs. While you’re waiting for his new album, why not discover and indulge in some oldies? Here are songs you need to listen to before RM’s "Indigo" releases.

1. ‘Favorite Girl’

Sampling from Marques Houston’s song, RM shows off his singing skills in ‘Favorite Girl.’ This song was before the days of BTS and was written with an old crush in mind. It discusses a past relationship, reminiscing on an old love. However, it is inevitable to hold onto the past for too long and he mentions this in the lyrics “As time passes by, I will forget my favorite, favorite girl.” This song tugs at your heart with RM’s velvety vocals and his long-gone feelings.

2. ‘Seoul’

Seoul is a love-hate song about RM’s home in Seoul, South Korea. Moving from his hometown to the city has given him turmoil in his adulthood. He loves the messy, confusing, and fast city but also hates it at the same time. His intelligent lyrics “If love and hate are the same words I love you, Seoul. If love and hate are the same words. I hate you, Seoul.” show his passionate feelings towards the place he calls home. This song is an anthem for everyone who is confused in life.

3. ‘Intro: Persona’

RM has always been open about his journey of self-discovery and identity. He has had his share of internal battles. Is he RM, Rap Monster, BTS’s leader, an idol? Many of the tracks discussed have shown his dilemmas and it seems we get closer to the answer in ‘Intro: Persona.’ Although RM is still trying to find out who he truly is, he is going to continue his journey and not give up. This song has a funky, old-school vibe to it that truly showcases RM’s versatile sound.

4. ‘Voice’

This song could be described as RM’s school life up until he joined BTS. It re-tells his struggles with expectations in life and his hardships as an idol. RM showcases his raw emotions as he dealt with the unhappiness of restrictions, parents’ disapproval, and the opinions of others. This song shows why our favorite leader is the person he is today, his past helped him to change and grow. Voices will definitely have you sobbing when you see his lyrics.

5. ‘Do You’

A timeless gem from his debut mixtape, ‘Do You’ is a major clapback to all the hypocrites in the world. He goes into detail about what people claim hip-hop is. They say “Hip-hop isn’t wearing makeup, dancing, or wearing skinny jeans and skirts!” RM gave a fierce callout to them saying people can do whatever they want. At the end of the day, who really cares what others have to say when they’ll always be haters? RM had his share of struggles from people trying to label him. This song really sets the tone for his mixtape and shows his distaste for the hypocrites.

6. ‘Trivia: Love’

While some of RM’s past music has been somber and melodramatic, ‘Trivia: Love’ shows a fresh and lively new sound from him. This track demonstrates how much of a lyrical genius RM is as he throws in different plays on words, such as comparing love and person since they sound similar in Korean. He describes this song as the development of love. Love is ordinary and pure. This jazzy song will have you falling in love

7. ‘Awakening’

This song was perfect to end with because it shows how hard work and good karma were rewarded to RM. His song ‘Awakening’ is powerful and hard-hitting. RM raps about the criticism he faced from switching from rapper to idol. K-Pop was not seen as serious and RM used to hate saying he was an idol. In his song, RM says he will never discourage his title and is proud of it now. Seeing how BTS and RM turned out over the next 7 years, creating a new outlook and path for K-Pop, 2015’s RM would be happy he made this song.
