The Current Heated Issue Over The Skin Color Of K-Pop Idols In Photos
In the age we’re living in, it’s almost impossible not to offend someone. People are currently divided about whether the photos of K-Pop idols should be edited to make the idols’ skin appear either extremely white or toned down.
The same argument or controversy or whatever you want to call it has happened before in the past, and it has been a recurring issue for quite some time.
For example, the two photos of BTS‘s ‘golden maknae’ JungKook below. Both look equally amazing, but there have been netizens, both international and South Korean, arguing over whether it is acceptable to tone the skin color slightly darker. Some South Korean netizens have even been accusing others of racism for editing the photos with darker skin tone.
And a few more photos below that have become the subjects of the current argument between netizens.
Some foreigners have stated that the idols look fine with their “natural” skin tone and that the whitening was unnecessary, while some South Koreans have stated that foreigners automatically assume that Koreans do not have white skin and that some foreigners are being racist for thinking that way.
But the fact that some South Koreans “whitewash” photos drastically itself can also be interpreted as a notion of racism as well.
How do you feel about the current issue?
