Here are the top MBC Dramas with the highest ratings since 2020!

 

1. "Knight Flower" - 18.4%

Starring Lee Hanee and Lee JongWon, the historical drama "Knight Flower" starred high in ratings and quickly reached high ratings. The drama gained even more popularity in its last weeks and reached the ratings of 18.4% with its final episode. In 2024, the drama broke the previous records held by "The Red Sleeve". 2. "The Red Sleeve" - 17.4%

This MBC drama depicted the hard working performance of the National Tax Service. Featuring a cast with Yim SiWan, Go AhSung, Son HyunJoo, and much more, "Tracer" reached its highest rating at 9.0%, earning it the fifth spot among MBC dramas so far. 9. "The Golden Spoon" - 7.8%

"The Golden Spoon" is a webtoon-based drama that followed poor, yet studious Lee SeungCheon (BTOB's SungJae) and chaebol son Hwang TaeYong (Lee JongWon) as they switched lives during adolescence and adulthood. The drama explored the stark differences between the extremely rich and those living in poverty. While there were moments of crushing heartache, there were scenes of uplifting hope that lit up all the dark spaces in your heart. "The Golden Spoon" earned its highest ratings at 7.8% and is available on Disney+ and Hulu.

 

10. "Tomorrow" - 7.6%

While this webtoon-based drama had various moments of uplifting comedy, it also did an excellent job at exploring hard-hitting topics. This involved aspects of mental health, life after death and those left behind, as well as the will to live on. At its highest peak, "Tomorrow" earned 7.6% in ratings. This MBC K-Drama is available on streaming platform, Netflix.

 

11. "Doctor Lawyer" - 7.2%

Starring the iconic actor, So JiSub, "Doctor Lawyer" is a fusion of medical and law, providing the best of both worlds. As Han YiHan (So JiSub) searched for the truth, viewers could not help but remain by his side. With the help of its loyal viewers, the MBC drama reached its highest ratings of 7.2%, placing it at eighth on this list. "Doctor Lawyer" is currently available on Disney+ and Hulu.

 

12. "Kkondae Intern" - 7.1%

Adapted from the winning script from MBC's 2018 drama writing contest, "Kkondae Intern" follows the reversal of roles between Ka YeolChan (Park HaeJin) and Lee ManSik (Kim EungSoo). 15. "The Forbidden Marriage" - 4.9%

Girls' Generation's TaeYeon is walking legend among K-Pop idols. While she first started off as a member and leader of iconic girl group Girls' Generation, she went above and beyond, leaving her mark as a celebrated soloist. Since she's been in the industry for so long, she's naturally done more than idol work.

TaeYeon has hosted radio shows, become a fixed cast member on "Amazing Saturday", and even been the host of several competition programs. And speaking of her hosting/MC duties, it seems she's about to head on a new venture with her very own web variety series, "Taeng-Forest". Through the show, she receives various concerns and worries from fans, then provides sincere, heartfelt advice. While the first episode felt like a "one and done" type of show, due to the warm response, TaeYeon and her team brought it back for a regular series.

Now, while at its core, "Taeng-Forest" is a talk show web variety, however, it offers a bit more comfort and depth. Among the many web varieties currently on air, TaeYeon's is a much needed splash of variety and strength.

 

A Concept Unexplored

Many web varieties out there focus on the celebrity, whether it's the host or invited guest. It's certainly nice to have these programs where we can learn more about our favorite star. However, "Taeng-Forest", allows its viewers to become active participants by sending in their worries and concerns. There was a program called "Hello Counselor"  that's similar to the web variety, but unfortunately ended prior to 2020. Fans of the show will be glad to see another version pop and grace their media feeds.

The Korean web variety scene is very much talk show-centric, pulling on the experiences and stories of various celebrities. Retaining this core component, they then start to tweak and change a few aspects to create multiple versions of a similar idea. And while they might appear the same, they continue to bring in the numbers and obtain up to a million views from audiences worldwide.

In essence, "Taeng-Forest" doesn't stray away from this tried and true formula. But it is different enough to make it stand out among the many sulbang's that are taking over in popularity across the internet. In addition, the very nature of TaeYeon makes it a much needed safe haven for introverts. She provides a contrast between hosts of shows like "Salon Drip 2" and "XYOB" by being her sweet, introverted self. Her presence is enough to set the tone of "Taeng-Forest", helping it to become like a piece of home that you return to at the end of every day.
