The Reason Why BTS Changed Their Lyrics During Billboard Performance
If you’re a fan of BTS, you’d know that their hits are usually laced with very poetic lyrics.
It’s not just the energetic synths and groovy rhythm that gets ARMY excited, it’s also the message that the K-Pop idols are trying to convey to them.
Some fans seem to have noticed that the lyrics of ‘Fake Love’ were slightly different than the actual ones during the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. And it turns out that the superstars intentionally decided to sing it differently for a good reason.
The words ‘ni ga’ (니가), which means ‘you’ in Korean, sounds almost identical to the word that negatively refers to the African people. BTS obviously seemed to be aware that even though they’d never say the word, there was a possibility that some might interpret the lyrics differently.
All the lyrics in the song that were supposed to be sung as ‘ni ga’ or ‘ne ga’ (내가, meaning ‘I’, ‘me’) were replaced with other words.
