After encountering heavy losses for a long time, the war between North and South Korea came to a cease-fire, resulting in the divided peninsula we have today.
This inevitably caused families to be separated as well. Among them is someone you would never have guessed. Member of the first generation K-Pop boy band H.O.T, Lee JaeWon shared his touching story of how he helped his grandfather escape from the brutal regime by saving money through his idol career.
He revealed that his father, who was five years old at the time, was separated from his grandfather after the war.
His father somehow got into contact with a broker who offered to help get his grandfather to the South for a price. However, the required payment was not a small sum.
Luckily, this was during the time when H.O.T was at a point where their status as legends had already been stamped, meaning Lee JaeWon had earned a fortune.
Naturally, he paid the required amount of money to the broker and his grandfather was able to cross the Tuman River safely to the South to be reunited with his family.
