Tragic Death of SHINee's JongHyun Shocks South Korea

SM Entertainment

JongHyun was loved by many K-Pop fans and was an influential figure in the K-Pop entertainment scene. He first debuted in 2008  and was also an active advocate of improving South Korea's education policies along with LGBT issues.

His sister became concerned after receiving messages from him that expressed heavy depression and suicidal tendencies. Some of the messages contained expressions such as 'Just let me go now'', 'Tell everyone thank you for me', 'It's been tough up until now.' , 'This is my last farewell to you.'

She then filed a report to the police and asked that they check up on him before it's too late. Investigations are currently on-going at the moment but it has also been reported there is a possibility that police will not further investigate into the matter because of the clear evidence that points to suicide.

According to SM Entertainment, JongHyun's funeral will take place at Seoul Asan Hospital today at noon.

We have to recognize mental health as equal to or greater in importance than physical health, and take immediate action to help those individuals with great compassion and understanding. My heart goes out to the family and close friends of this talented individual. I also hope we reduce the pressure on these young people especially in the entertainment industry and remember they are people first and that ARE NOT POSSESSIONS of their company or their fans!!!!
