TVXQ YunHo Criticized By Japanese Fans & Netizens

Japanese fans of YunHo of TVXQ are currently criticizing the K-Pop idol.

The reason why is due to political differences.

As many are probably familiar, Japan and South Korea have never been the best of friends and have been mortal enemies for quite some time throughout history.

YunHo was seen at an airport in Japan recently wearing a hat with the Marymond logo. Marymond is an organization that supports and raises awareness about how South Korean comfort women still haven’t received an official apology from the Japanese government regarding war crimes committed against them.

The Japanese of course like to believe that such atrocities never took place.

Japanese netizens have been criticizing YunHo for wearing the hat as it made them uncomfortable being reminded of what took place in history.

What do you think about the situation?

I would say fairplay to him for having a gutz to wear the hat. I think Japanese fans and netizen need to own up the horrific things the ancestors have done.
I myself was hated by someone in work because the old woman thought I was japanese as her father was prisoner of war. I explained to her im not japanese and my ancestor also has had a horrific experienced under japanese. Her and family apologize to me and I understand why.. because her father was brutally mistreated as prisoner of war.

So I’m actually Japanese, and know a bit about why Japanese fans might’ve reacted this way. Like, alot of Japanese people don’t even know that those horrific events happened. Japanese history textbooks are actual trash, and conveniently skip over, or downplay, all of the war crimes etc that Japan has committed. There’s a lot of weird propaganda in Japan about this stuff I think, so that explains their response. They’re not necessarily evil, nor do they outright support Japan’s past actions, it’s just what they’ve been taught to believe. I myself want to urge Japan and Japanese people to recognise… Read more »

I understand that he wants to support his fellow men but is it really right to wear it inside the territory where they are promoting?

I understand why South Koreans would be uncomfortable but do the Japanese fans really have the right to be upset the way that they are? If youre upset, then be upset with your own ancestors. Don’t take your anger out on those who you claim to love and support so dearly. Yes you can hate on the brand but idols are very busy and exhausted people. I don’t think they have the time to research every brand they promote. Shouldn’t that be the job of the stylists? No disrespect to the stylists of course, I know they work hard.

It makes THEM uncomfortable about what took place in history. I understand the tension between the two countries but how self-centered can you get to hate on a person because your country committed war crimes it hasn’t apologized for?

I think what Yunho did is not a smart move for his career as TVXQ just released their Japanese album. But, I do know a lot about this horrific history of the comfort women for Japanese troops during the 2nd World War as my country experienced this too. The only thing I dislike about the Japanese is their ignorance with the war crimes they did. Suck it up, and apologize. And even though I stated that it is not a good time for Yunho to wear that brand (since you know… the Japanese are quite sensitive and this might affect… Read more »

Hey. If you do not recognize what your country did wrong as the young generation. Your country will never free from that. What is wrong that he wear that hat? That is true of the history.

It’s a hat…. history has happened and if you don’t wanna face it that’s on you.

Then maybe own up to it and apologize. Also your a fan of this man and if you get annoyed by the fact he is supporting women of his nation, get over yourselves and politely be a quiet fan.

Why are people complaining about it? It’s just a hat.
