Unpopular Opinion: It’s Not Worth Hoping For f(x)’s Comeback In K-Pop?

SM Entertainment

Consistency is vital for K-Pop idol groups to succeed. Part of the reason is because it steadily meets the demands of fans and consumers. Without consistency, frustration begins to breed and eventually leads to irrelevance.

YG Entertainment is notorious for being the perfect example of such cases, earning the agency the nickname of ‘the basement’, where idols are locked up without being able to release new contents for their fans.

SM Entertainment‘s girl group f(x) has been inactive as a group for quite a long time up until now and one can’t help but wonder if a comeback will mean anything. The name definitely rings a bell for K-Pop consumers but the same can’t be said for their relevance in today’s K-Pop scene. They’ve been anything but consistent as individual members have been busy with their individual activities, notably Victoria, and SM Entertainment just seems to be preoccupied with other groups.

Many K-Pop fans on various online communities have stated that their return has been delayed much too long to be welcomed with open arms.

Of course, fans absolutely dislike the idea that f(x) have been ditched by their own agency and the members are better off being active as solo idols as some K-Pop fans on online communities suggest.

But the members are now well beyond their prime years and they haven’t had any presence in the scene during recent times.

Should SM Entertainment revive the once popular girl group?

Going to have to disagree with this article. They’ve cemented themselves as one of those groups that are part of the golden age of K-pop. They will never stop being relevant. They played a vital role in the popularity of k-pop today. Yes, the group in and of itself has been dead for a time, but the individual members stay relevant on their own during the group hiatus and each individual member holds a giant fanbase. Even when SM took 5 years to provide them with their own solo concert and 5 years to provide the fans with a fandom… Read more »

nah, it’s been too long and i’m tired. Luna needs to sign with another company and become the solo superstar we know she can be!

I would like to see f(x) return. They were one of the most unique groups, very creative and experimental. Lots of KPOP stars are getting a second chance by moving to new groups, so it would be interesting to see if a KPOP group such as f(x) could completely revive themselves by almost starting all over together. It would also be good for the KPOP industry to break the commandment that all girl group members must be very young to succeed.

what would be the point in their return?? groups been dead for ages and has no fan base any more. seems like it would be a terrible move for sm from a business perspective

perhaps u don’t realize the amount of fans that have been waiting for their return. If ur not a fan don’t be disrespectful. the only reason they haven’t got a comeback yet is cuz of sm

I wouldn’t mind them being a 3 member group with a musical and style change.

Well I guess it really depends if there are still any fx fans on the face of the earth…Seems a little too late as well. SM probably moved on and are focusing on their other dying idol groups.

irrelevant seems to be just about right to describe them. sm continues to fail

no because they’re overrated and more talented groups out there. no one needs them

not exactly true. they are very legendary because they have a different style of music one that no one has ever seen especially in a girl group before (f)x came along. I’m not even a fan i know that. 2nd Generation artists are definetly talented and needed in Kpop.
