Just recently, K-Pop idol group Wanna One took home three awards in total: : Song of the Year Award, Best Male Vocal Performance Award, and the MBC Plus Star Award.
They were able to beat out the likes of BLACKPINK, iKON, BTS, Red Velvet, and Momoland.
However, many netizens feel that MGA's decision to give the daesang to Wanna One was disagreeable as they believe the award should have gone to iKON for having performed well this year with 'Love Scenario', which has accumulated over 200 million views on YouTube. In addition, the 'Love Scenario' syndrome was also something that many netizens feel was deserving of a daesang award.
But like most processes of selecting candidates for awards, there are guidelines to it. For the MGA's the guidelines on selecting the winner is based on 20 % votes from fans, 40% from song scores on Genie Music digital charts, 20% from the judges and 20% based on social media.
Perhaps netizens are currently not satisfied with how the guidelines have been set?
Do you agree with the netizens arguing that Wanna One shouldn't have won the daesang for this year's MGA's? Was iKON's 'Love Scenario' a better candidate?
