It is a theme rarely approached in depth in K-Dramas but the recent episode brought light to the subject realistically and informed viewers about the reality of domestic violence.

Be aware of spoilers.

Shim MyeongYeo (acted by Moon JeongHee) visited her old friend at the hospital who is terminally ill. Shim MyeongYeo noticed bruises on the face of her friends and understood it was her husband -again- that hit her even in her last days. Shim MyeongYeo then started to talk about domestic violence as she could not understand why her friend was not getting a divorce.

It was not her first time witnessing a victim of domestic violence who refused to get a divorce. Indeed, Shim MyeongYeo was the close and long time witness of her sister Shim MyeongJoo (acted by Jin HeeKyung) being abused by her husband (acted by Seo TaeHwa) until she killed him.

Shim MyeongYeo discussed with her ex-boyfriend Cha YoonYaek (acted by Hwang Gun) what is the reality and pains of the victims of domestic violence. She could not understand why a woman being abused is not leaving the relationship while her ex-boyfriend was giving an explanation from the victim's point of view.

Cha YoonYaek said: "Since her husband doesn't hit her all the time, she just bore with him".

Shim MyeongYeo, shocked: "What?"

Cha YoonYaek: "When he's not hitting her, he is the sweetest and kindest person in the world like there is none other. And then she thinks that "he just lost his temper for a moment and he couldn't bear with it". He would desperately beg for forgiveness and she would believe him and keep forgiving him. She lives with this hope."

Shim MyeongYeo: "But in the end, he doesn't keep his promise. He doesn't keep his words and hits her again many times. He lost his temper for a moment? Everyone can get angry but they hold back. But then he can't hold back, why is she holding it?"

Cha YoonYaek: "You're right"

Shim MyeongYeo: "Even if he hits her only sometimes, he still hits her. You say he is a warm person? Does that make sense?"

Cha YoonYaek: "No it doesn't."

Shim MyeongYeo: "How could she ... where does she like him?"

On the background of their discussion was showed the story of Shim MyeongJoo (the sister) and her abusive husband. He was seen being considerate and kind to her, however, he hit her until she bled and dragged her by her hair. He then apologized to her and said he will never do it again. But in the end, the story was the same.
